Lyrically Speaking: Who What Where Wednesday

#1 Post by astrnomr » Wed Apr 30, 2008 8:07 am

In honor of last night... the show that... American Idol is huge. But Paula... she seems very... how many seasons has it been? These problems... allegations, really... well, they've surfaced before... she's fine. Really. I'm sure it's hard... well, there's only five... they sing one right after... it gets confusing. How many... they sing twice now? We have to take... I can't write fast... who are you again?

1. When I'm out walking, I strut my stuff, yeah, I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite, I just might stop to check you out

2. I'm gonna sing those songs
That offend the censors
Gonna pop my pills from a pez dispenser

3. Chicago Green, talkin' 'bout Black Lebanese
A dirty room and a silver coke spoon
Give me my release, come on

4. We spent the rest of that day and most of that night
Trying to find my brother, Bill
Caught up with him 'bout six o'clock the next mornin'
Naked, swinging on the windmill

5. So you stay out late at night
And you do your coke for free
Drivin' your friends crazy
With your life's insanity

6. Well you think you're gonna find yourself a little piece of paradise
But it ain't happened yet, so girl, you better think twice
Don't you see no matter what you do
You'll never run away from you

7. She don't like other women, she likes whips and chains
She likes cocaine and filppin' out with great danes
She's about all I can handle, it's too much for my brain

8. Then I learned to play some lead guitar
I was underage in this funky bar
And I stepped outside to smoke myself a "J"

9. If you got bad news, you wanna kick them blues -- [song title]
When your day is done and you wanna run -- [song title]

10. Who do you love, I hope it's me
I've bin a changin', as you can plainly see
I felt the joy and I learned about the pain that my momma said
If I should choose to make a part of me, surely strike me dead

11. What in the world ever became of sweet Jane?
She lost her sparkle, you know she isn't the same
Livin' on reds, vitamin C, and cocaine
All a friend can say is "Ain't it a shame?"

Bonus: Identify today's theme.

Double Bonus: Which song in this quiz featured parts performed by somebody else in this quiz? (10 points each for correct song and correct contributing artist)

Final Bonus: Song #11 contains a reference to a real-life drug bust that happened to the band. In which city did it happen?

It's very out of character that I'd know that particular song. But I heard it on the radio Monday morning and enjoyed it so much that I looked up the lyrics. --Bob (whose musical tastes may eventually reach the 21st Century)

San Francisco, although that's probably too obvious.

Is there anybody left who thinks that Paula Abdul is good for the show? She's causing them to consistently run over their time every week, and she can't even put together a coherent sentence any more.

1. When I'm out walking, I strut my stuff, yeah, I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite, I just might stop to check you out
Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun

2. I'm gonna sing those songs

5. So you stay out late at night
And you do your coke for free
Drivin' your friends crazy

Guns N' Roses - My Michelle
This was a stumper???

6. Well you think you're gonna find yourself a little piece of paradise
But it ain't happened yet, so girl, you better think twice
Don't you see no matter what you do
You'll never run away from you
Paul Revere and the Raiders (or The Monkees) - Kicks

7. She don't like other women, she likes whips and chains
She likes cocaine and filppin' out with great danes
She's about all I can handle, it's too much for my brain
ZZ Top - Got Me Under Pressure

8. Then I learned to play some lead guitar
I was underage in this funky bar
And I stepped outside to smoke myself a "J"
Paul Simon - Late in the Evening

9. If you got bad news, you wanna kick them blues -- [song title]

Eric Clapton (or JJ Cale) - Cocaine

10. Who do you love, I hope it's me

11. What in the world ever became of sweet Jane?
She lost her sparkle, you know she isn't the same
Livin' on reds, vitamin C, and cocaine
All a friend can say is "Ain't it a shame?"
Grateful Dead - Truckin'
I've often wondered what good the vitamin C would do if you're living on reds and cocaine.

Bonus: Identify today's theme.
Drug use. And, in honor of Paula's gaffe on Tuesday night, I threw in an extra song.

Double Bonus: Which song in this quiz featured parts performed by somebody else in this quiz? (10 points each for correct song and correct contributing artist)
Nickelback's "Rock Star" included speaking parts voiced by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. In addition to Gibbons, the video featured Ted Nugent, Gene Simmons, Kid Rock, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Grant Hill, and others lip-synching the words.

Final Bonus: Song #11 contains a reference to a real-life drug bust that happened to the band. In which city did it happen?
New Orleans. Shortly after a concert, the band members were arrested ("Busted... down on Bourbon Street") and they vowed never to return ("Houston... too close to New Orleans").

Well, we've had 5 straight months of relatively uninterrupted LS. Can we go for 6? I won't be back in the driver's seat until next winter, but I hope someone can take over for May....

I can't meister. Too much other stuff goin' on. I have zero ideas right now, but when inspiration strikes, I'll do a month's run. Promise.

Man, the end of the month didn't even register to me. I hadn't realized when playing yesterday that it was the last game of the month.

Thanks so much for the games!! Excellent job!
