This year, Michael Stuhlbarg appears in three of the films nominated for Best Picture: The Post, The Shape of Water, and Call Me By Your Name. Before that, the last person to do so was John C. Reilly in 2002, all of which premiered within a one-week period (when only five films were nominated for Best Picture), and before that the last actor to do so was Douglas Croft in 1943.

It would seem that with so many character actors appearing in prestige projects that this would happen more often, but it hasn't.
