Bridge report

We had a good first session yesterday in Flight A of the North American Pairs, good for 1.93 platinum points. Unfortunately, the wheels came off in the second session so we failed to qualify for the finals.

Partner is under the weather today and taking the day off. I’ll try to pick up a partner and play a regional pairs game. Tomorrow we’re playing the 0-10,000 Swiss Teams event. —Bob

You might want to try Craigslist. There's plenty of partners there you can pick up and play pairs games with.

I picked up a partner and it was a fairly frustrating day. Time after time I watched him make obvious blunders. We did manage an okay afternoon session, so I added 0.88 red points to my tournament total, bringing my cumulative haul to 2.81 points.

Tomorrow we play the 0-10,000 Swiss Teams. I finished 4th in that event a few years ago so I have hopes. —Bob

Our team got off to a rough start in the 0-10,000 Swiss, losing two of our first three matches. Fortunately, we didn’t lose any more for the rest of the day. We qualified comfortably for the finals in tenth place out of 34 qualifiers.

Our five and a half wins were good for 2.92 red points, making my cumulative total for the tournament 5.73 points. Today we’ll play eight more matches in the finals, and then I’m back on a plane for home tomorrow.

As a special added bonus, I had jarnon as a kibitzer for my last three matches of the first session, after which we had a nice meal between sessions. I think that’s the first time I’ve met him in person. I hope he enjoyed it as much as I did. —Bob

I had fun watching you in action. Good luck in the finals!

We made the overalls, finishing 15th. That was good for 12.60 gold points and 1.40 platinum points, which we get instead of (not in addition to) yesterday’s match awards. I’m going home from the tournament with a cumulative total of 16.81 points of various shades.

Thanks again, jarnon, for stopping by. I’m glad you felt it was worth the trip. —Bob

It turns out my Thursday performance was good for an award of 1.00 red points instead of 0.88, so my total for the tournament was 16.93 points.
