The Mets' 4-2 victory this afternoon, combined with Washington's loss to Atlanta, leaves the Mets in undisputed possession of first place in the National League East. It may not last long, but given the many seasons when I couldn't say that for even a day, I'll enjoy it while I can. --Bob

My hometown Cincinnati Reds have already been mathematically eliminated from the postseason.

That's a mere 108 wins (projected) will do to a fan.

With their win over Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals, the Mets have extended their lead in the National League Eastern Division to a full game over the idle Atlanta Braves. --Bob

By beating the Nationals as Atlanta lost to Colorado, the Mets extended their lead in the National League Eastern Division to a season high game and a half. It will be nice waking up tomorrow knowing that the Mets will still be in first place when I go to sleep that night. --Bob

Looks like the Red Sox will win 144 games this year.
Time to get the parade route ready.

Luck of the draw getting to play Tampa Bay 126 times this year.

Hey, don't forget the tough-as-nails Miami Marlins.

By beating the Marlins as Atlanta fell to the Nationals, the Mets have extended their lead in the National League Eastern Division to a season-high two and a half games. --Bob

New York's comeback win over the Marlins, combined with Atlanta's loss to the Nationals, extends the Mets' lead in the National League Eastern Division to a season-high three and a half games. I don't know how much longer this is going to last, but I'm sure enjoying the ride. --Bob

You got me there. Detroit is the best team in AL. Or did you mean Seattle?

I've gotta confess that the Braves aren't the team I was expecting to be looking up at when the ride ended, but there you have it. --Bob

Not to worry...New York has done this sort of thing before.
Figured I'd get that in while I can. Got my hot sauce and blue cheese ready in case I have to eat my words later. Have the feeling it's going to be a knock down drag-out all summer. Ain't it grand?

That's punishment enough.
