Fireball's Fantastic 500 -- Late 1970s, Part IV

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Thu Apr 05, 2018 5:35 pm

As promised before, I'm delivering the next serving of songs a day early. I have even more on my plate leading up to the weekend than originally expected, so let's get through this as quickly as possible.

#50. Stiletto, Billy Joel (1978)

For Billy's fourth appearance on my list, we have this deep cut from his award-winning 52nd Street album. This song could accurately be described as an early hip-hop song.

#49. I'd Really Love to See You Tonight, England Dan & John Ford Coley (1976)

#48. Poor Poor Pitiful Me, Warren Zevon (1976)

I'm betting that nobody expected Warren to show up twice on my list. You probably know this song better with Linda Ronstadt singing it. Her cover version hit the Top 40 a year later. I like both versions equally, so Warren gets the credit and Linda gets the honorable mention.

Honorable Mention #1: Poor Poor Pitiful Me, Linda Ronstadt (1977)

#47. Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway), Billy Joel (1976)

Billy gets the five-bagger rather quickly. Although this song is now officially outdated by one year, Billy wasn't too far off with his forty-year-old prediction that America would become a s**thole in 2017.

#46. Lights, Journey (1978)

We go from "lights out" to "lights go down". Although it never made the Top 40, this song is always a fan favorite.

#45. Shadows in the Moonlight, Anne Murray (1978)

Yes, Anne Murray has a song in my Top 500. This is a beautiful song with a little bit of country feel to it. So shut up.

#44. Who Loves You, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons (1975)

We finally get to hear from the Jersey boys with one of their big mid-1970s comeback hits.

#43. Get Used to It, Roger Voudouris (1979)

#42. The Immigrant, Neil Sedaka (1975)

Don't tell Minecraft pedophile Donald Drumpf this song is on my list. I really should have put this song higher, just to spite Drumpf's enablers.

#41. On Broadway, George Benson (1978)

Can you believe this chapter is halfway done? The Top 40 of the late 1970s begins next Friday!
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)
