Michael Cohen’s attorney revealed in open court Monday that Sean Hannity is the mystery third client Cohen alluded to in previous court filings, according to reporters live-tweeting the proceedings.

U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood ruled during the hearing that Cohen must disclose the client’s identity. The revelation came in a hearing on Cohen’s efforts to halt the government’s review of documents seized from his office, residence and hotel room so that Cohen or an independent third party can sort out records falling under attorney-client privilege first.

In a letter Sunday night, Cohen’s attorneys claimed that Cohen had been engaged in “traditional legal tasks” with at least three clients in 2017 through 2018. The letter named President Donald Trump, who has already sought to get involved in the current dispute over the seized documents, and Elliot Broidy, a GOP fundraiser for whom Cohen arranged a hush payment for a Playboy model he impregnated, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Cohen resisted naming the third client, citing his client’s preference that his identity not be made public.

Prosecutors have argued that they should be allowed to move forward through the Justice Department’s typical process in which the government handles documents seized from attorneys. Under that process, a special team of DOJ lawyers not involved in the investigation, sort out any documents that fall under attorney-client privilege. Prosecutors, in the Cohen dispute, have argued that their investigation focuses on his business dealing and that Cohen appears to have been engaged in little traditional legal work anyway.

At the hearing Monday, Cohen’s lawyers floated disclosing the third client to the judge privately under seal, according to the reporters live-tweeting it, but Judge Wood said that they had not met the threshold for the client’s name to remain hidden from the public.

I have only read the link you posted for our benefit on this subject. How do you call that a 'hush' payment? As far as the article goes, he was giving the woman support for the pregnancy. Was there anything about non-disclosure there? If not, either you are mischaracterizing it out of ignorance (no surprise there), or the report you are quoting is engaging in 'fake news'. And continuing to make sure the word 'Playboy' is there to describe the woman involved is pretty tabloidy.

I'm not sure which source BJ quoted, but here's one from Reuters:

Quote:
U.S. President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer arranged for a $1.6 million payment to a Playboy Playmate to keep secret her sexual relationship with Republican fundraiser and Trump ally Elliott Broidy, during which she became pregnant, a person familiar with the matter said on Friday.

Sounds like hush money to me.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa- ... SKBN1HK2LB

As with the Stormy Daniels payment, what matters is where the money came from and how it was reported. There could be some criminal violations here, and Cohen would be right in the middle of them.

I always thought that Jared Kushner would be the weak link in Trump's inner circle who would, one way or another, bring down the whole house of cards.

Now it appears that Michael Cohen is the gift that keeps on giving.

And a question for Flock, who is real big on journalistic integrity. Why hasn't Sean Hannity mentioned the fact that Cohen is his lawyer during any of his many tirades about the unfair way that Mueller is treating Cohen? Responsible journalism dictates that reporters mention anything that might put a slant on the story, such as a relationship with the subject of the story.

I have no idea. I never watch or listen to him. Just like you never read anything I tell you.

SSS, I know you're a fan of the pointy stick, and I get that, but I don't think you get that us "righty" sorts don't necessarily like Hannity. He's an insufferable parrot who isn't the brightest bulb. Most or many folks know that.

Hockey puck is cosmically (or maybe comically) attuned to the republican mind. He knows everything about what they think. Don't tell him what they like or don't like.

Michael Cohen has never represented me in any matter. I never retained him, received an invoice, or paid legal fees. I have occasionally had brief discussions with him about legal questions about which I wanted his input and perspective.

It's easy to be attuned to simple minds like dogs and Republicans.

On second thought, I apologize to all the canine lovers out there for lumping their pets in with Republicans.

Hannity might want to check on what the definition of "legal counsel" is.

Cohen testified that he considered Hannity a client in court today. He tried to keep that a secret but the judge overruled him. So what was there to cover up?

Notice how Republicans don't take such comments and assume that all Democrats are stereotyping, presumptuous, pompous blowhards like you? Most people understand that any such broad-brush statements can invariable be proved false.

I was going to comment on this a few days ago, when one of the usual suspects made some such comment about Republicans, as if they're all the same. I could not let such an assholy statement go unresponded to today.

Apparently, you are more up on what Hannity talks about on air than anybody else here so why ask us? However, it makes me happy that Sean Hannity is living rent-free inside your head.

You can't possibly believe there is the most remote of possibilities of intellect from that source. He is a prime example of how a great number on the left have lost their ever-loving minds.

I don't believe he's ever claimed to be anything but a TV host and commentator. You might be the only one who considers him a journalist.

Hockey puck will be glad to hear that I actually turned hannity on tonite, because I wanted to watch his tearful confession.

What a lying scumbag. He said he never hired cohen and just had brief conversations with him. Well, he will be sorry he didn't confess when it comes out he used cohen to pay off a Russian ex-Hustler porn star who he got pregnant with twins.

I wouldn't have believed that SSS has the ability to fake a post under flock's handle...

He is paid to deliver his opinion. Journalists are supposed to be reporting facts. If you see no difference there, you are dumber than a Republican.

So if he's not a client, Hannity can't claim attorney-client privilege.

He isn't just some guy expressing his opinion; he's doing so on a cable news network as someone who is being paid by that network. Under those circumstances, he does have an obligation to reveal information that might affect his opinion.

I find it interesting that you consider every Republican that has been here over the history of the Bored to be simple minded. Doesn't tell us much about Bored Republicans, but it does say a lot about you.
