Is there a conceivable reason to oil the surface in any of the other three choices?

Only reason I knew this before two weeks ago was something I read in our local paper about 20 years ago. Some local bowler rolled a 300 game in league play, and TPTB (American Bowling Congress?) didn't certify it as a valid 300 game because of how the lane was oiled - that is, what areas were oiled heavily and what areas were barely oiled.

More recently, I bowled at a new alley here in town and made the mistake - once - of sliding past the foul line. It hit the oil on the lane, and that foot took off, to humorous result.
