The ads in the two governor's race campaigns were night and day different. The Democrats focused on economic issues, while the Republicans turned theirs into a "who is more macho" contest, with candidates pointing guns at their family members, driving a "detention bus" around the state and showing ad after ad of footage of Hispanic gang members and saying that the biggest problem we have in Georgia is drug dealing illegal immigrant street gangs. And since there will be a Republican runoff, we will have two more months of that.

Also, here in the Sixth District, there will also be a Democratic runoff to fact Karen Handel. The candidate with the best name recognition, former TV anchorman Bobby Kaple, finished third. Instead, there will be a runoff between businessman Kevin Abel and the surprise frontrunner, Lucy McBath, whose son was the teenager killed at the Florida convenience store a few years back by a white man who unsuccessfully claimed he was shooting the unarmed boy in self defense. McBath campaigned pretty much on one issue, stricter gun control. I'm not sure how that will play among the electorate at large in the Sixth District if she gets the nomination.
