It's vacation eve! As promised, I'm leaving all of you with the next songs on my list. The next post you see from me will be through my cellphone, when I will deliver the one answer that all of us have really been waiting for since the beginning of the year: what college will be getting my oldest son for the next four or so years.

#50. Gloria, Laura Branigan (1982)

#49. Hold On to My Love, Robin Gibb (1980)

Both Gibb and Jimmy Ruffin recorded versions of this song in 1980. Ruffin's cover was a Top 10 hit... but since Gibb wrote the song, he gets the credit on my list. I will take either version, honestly.

And here's the honorable mention for Jimmy Ruffin:

#48. Against the Wind, Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band (1980)
Boney Hall of Fame: #264

#47. Ribbon in the Sky, Stevie Wonder (1982)

Last year, a contestant on America's Got Talent named Dr. Brandon Rogers sang this song for his audition. The judges gave him the yeses necessary to advance to the second round, but Dr. Rogers sadly never got to the second round because he was killed in a car accident shortly after his first and only tryout.

#46. Through the Fire, Chaka Khan (1984)

Younger people might recognize this song as the inspiration for one of jackass Kanye's early hits.

#45. Take It Uptown, Bill Champlin (1981)

Peter Cetera isn't the only member of Chicago who has released solo albums. Champlin's second solo album, Runaway, gave us this lost gem.

#44. Let Me Love You Tonight, Pure Prairie League (1980)

A young Vince Gill provided the lead vocals for this classy Top 10 hit.

#43. I Can Dream About You, Dan Hartman (1984)

Harvey Weinstein, Morgan Freeman, Al Franken, Roy Moore, Drumpf, etc. really should have taken the advice in this song: "I can dream about you if I can't hold you tonight."

#42. When She Was My Girl, the Four Tops (1981)

It's been a very long time since we heard from the Four Tops. In fact, you have to go back to the beginning because "Standing in the Shadows of Love" was the very first song listed on my countdown.

#41. Tired of Toein' the Line, Rocky Burnette (1980)

You knew this one had to come up somewhere. As I've mentioned in the past, my mother saw Rocky perform this song in person the night before she gave birth to me. A spot called the Baked Potato in Studio City, California--a place that is still in business today, by the way. This song will always have a special place in my heart because of that. And if you know what happened the day after I was born, then you should expect another certain song to show up later on the countdown.

And that's it for the countdown until Friday, June 15.
