On the Mendota Bridge in 1971

We went to the Twin Cities yesterday and I realized how quickly family lore can disappear.

My grandfather was hauling cattle to the South St. Paul stockyards in 1971 and the side broke out of his truck as he was approaching the Mendota Bridge in the Twin Cities and some of the cattle ran across the bridge at 2PM.

Some of them got into the wilder country down in the river bottoms and it took about a week before the last ones were rounded up (shot).

We saw the bridge yesterday and I mentioned it to the Spocklette and she did not know the story. I just assumed she had heard it.
