Sportsball 6-18-18

#1 Post by elwoodblues » Mon Jun 18, 2018 2:03 pm

Welcome to this edition of Sportsball. In one of the games I did last year I gave clues for which the answer was also the nickname of a baseball team. This time I used football teams. For one point each, answer each of these clues with the nickname of an NFL team. This and most of the games this time have a two-point bonus question called a Two-point conversion.

1. Since 1971 this group has sold over 150 million albums Eagles

2. When people’s phone batteries are low they need these Chargers

3. Willie Nelson’s heroes have always been them, but he doesn’t want mamas to let their babies grow up to be them Cowboys

4. West Side Story gang Jets

5. People who predict a downturn in the stock market Bears

6. Chestnut, khaki, russet Browns

7. Expensive cars Jaguars, but I also accepted Falcons and Broncos. They are all expensive to me.

8. They come in the mail every month Bills

9. Greek mythology characters Titans

10. They can be black, gray or pink Panthers, but I also accepted Dolphins.

Two-point conversion: Here is a little math problem for you. The final score of Super Bowl LII was 41-33. There were nine touchdowns in the game, but after four of them the conversion attempt failed. There were no successful two-point conversions, no defensive conversions (defense returns conversion attempt for two points) and no safeties.

Based on this information how many field goals were made in the game?

The answer is 5.

Total points 74 (41+33)
Points from touchdowns 54 (9X6)
Points after touchdown 5 (the 5 successful conversions were for one point each)
Points remaining 15 (which must have been scored by field goals)
Field goals made 5 (15/3)

This one was too easy, but I was going more for fun than difficulty. Some of the other games might be a little harder.

41 + 33 = 74
9 * 6 + (9-4) = 54 + 5 = 59
74 - 59 = 15
15 / 3 = 5
