Sportsball 6-25-18

#1 Post by elwoodblues » Mon Jun 25, 2018 2:02 pm

Today we have four sets of fathers and sons who had the same name, and at least one of them was a sports figure. For two points each give me their name, and there is an extra point opportunity in each question.

1. Sr. was a longtime major league coach and manager and Jr. broke a record held by a Yankees great. (For an extra point name the Yankees player.)

2. In 2004 and 2014 Jr. won the event in which Sr. was killed in 2001. (For an extra point name the event.)

3. Sr. played for one of the greatest teams in his sport and Jr. (whose nickname was Junior) was one of the greatest players in the sport. In 1990 and 1991 they were teammates. (For an extra point name the team where they were teammates.)

4. Sr. was a heavyweight champion boxer in the 1930s and Jr. played a popular TV character in the 1960s. (For an extra point name the character.)

Two-point conversion: For what NFL team did the father of Peyton and Eli Manning play the majority of his career?

After thinking of "juniors" I forgot about "one of the greatest teams in his sport" Obviously the Chargers do not fit that description.
I'm sure I would have not answered correctly no matter how long I thought. Still don't know the answer.

I know it's not the Indy 500 because they're not NASCAR. The only other race I know offhand is the Daytona 500, so I'll go with that. I'm not a real motor sports enthusiast. However, they SHOULD have a Duff Beer 500. That'd be cool.

1. Sr. was a longtime major league coach and manager and Jr. broke a record held by a Yankees great. (For an extra point name the Yankees player.) - Cal Ripken, Lou Gehrig (I had to come back to this one, and wondered at first why Ripken wasn't in this game. For some reason, Yankees great was throwing me off since both were associated with the Orioles)

2. In 2004 and 2014 Jr. won the event in which Sr. was killed in 2001. (For an extra point name the event.) - Dale Earnhardt, Daytona 500 (Who remembers when, due to a Bored glitch, Dale Sr.'s death briefly hijacked The Iron Thread? Who remembers the Iron Thread?)

Ken Griffey/Seattle Mariners - I was at the Angels game where they hit back-to-back homers. I don't think another f/s pair has ever done that. Boy, were the late-comers pissed off that they missed it.
