Fireball's Fantastic 500 -- Late 1980s, Part I

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Sat Jul 14, 2018 12:00 pm

I have returned to Cincinnati... one fewer mouth to feed in this house. It already feels quieter and lonelier in here. No fear, because I have some music to cheer me up. We're starting the 1985-89 chapter today. This represents the largest part of my Top 500, with a total of 88 songs. That means by the time we get to the 1990s, it will be mid-September. I'm still quite exhausted from the past week, so I'll start off this section with only the bottom eight songs.

#88. Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, Paul Simon (1986)

I could have just as easily traded this one for "You Can Call Me Al"--off of the same Grammy-winning album--but there is just something so charming about the African flavor of this tune.

#87. All This Time, Tiffany (1988)

#86. Lost in Your Eyes, Deborah Gibson (1989)

I had one teen mall queen in the previous spot... so, for equal time, I have to put the other on my list.

#85. She Wants to Dance with Me, Rick Astley (1989)

#83. Stuck with You, Huey Lewis & the News (1986)

Let's double up on the Huey!

#82. Tell It to My Heart, Taylor Dayne (1987)

OK, I admit it. I love Taylor Dayne. So what?

#81. Calling America, Electric Light Orchestra (1986)

Their last Top 20 hit before splitting up the first time.
