Dawson found the Rainbow Bridge

My beloved cat of 14 years passed away some time early this morning, in front of the door to Javon's empty bedroom. I don't know if it was old age, being heartbroken over Javon moving out, or both... but Dawson spent a lot of time meowing at the empty room over the past few days. Dawson had grown quite attached to Javon over the years, although Dawson was originally a present for Javon's older half-brother, Terrell. I adopted Dawson as a kitten from a local animal shelter on March 18, 2004, to give to Terrell for his 8th birthday. After Terrell was shot and killed the following year, my baby mama gave Dawson back to me, and Dawson had been with us ever since. I found comfort over the years by talking to Terrell through Dawson. But now Dawson has gone off to play with Annie, Josie, Bruce the Wonder Cat, Spilly, and all of the other departed Bored four-footers... almost 13 years to the day that I lost my firstborn son.

Forgive me for taking another small break from the Bored, but I have some things to take care of during the next couple of days--not the least of which include a proper burial for Dawson and a drive to the cemetery to talk to Terrell. The songs can wait.

Animals operate under a whole different set of rules. We less intelligent humans are just lucky to have their love and companionship. Perhaps Dawson sensed the work had been completed and it was time to move on. At any rate, I feel for you, having been through the loss of numerous well-loved four-footers, and am glad to know that Dawson was there to help you through the worst of times.

Well done, Dawson.
