Not the former basketball star but the Republican Congressman in New York's 27th Congressional District (suburban Buffalo and Rochester). He has been charged with insider trading, along with his son and the father of his son's fiancée. The District is rated Safe Republican by Cook's with a +11 Republican lean (11 points more Republican than an average district), and Collins is in his third term and was re-elected by a 2-1 margin in 2016.

New York's primaries are next month. Does he have a primary challenger? --Bob

The state primaries in New York will be held next month, but the Congressional primaries were held last month (that's when Ocasio Cortez won). One reason vote totals were so low is that the Congressional race was the only race on the ballot (both Kirsten Gillibrand and her Republican opponent for Senate were unopposed). Collins was unopposed on the Republican side. The Democratic candidate is Nate McMurray, the town supervisor of Grand Island and there is a Reform Party candidate on the ballot as well (NY has lots of third parties that put up candidates in various races).

Collins was the first Congressman to endorse Trump for President and was one of the few rank-and-file members of Congress close to him. One of the phone calls that got him in trouble on his fraud charges was made by him while at a Congressional Picnic at the White House he attended.

Thanks. I should have remembered that.

This could be interesting. OH 12 is an R+14 district, which turned into a nail-biter with what seem to be two generic candidates on the ballot. --Bob

Cook's has just reclassified this from Safe Republican to Likely Republican.

What Collins may do is remain on the ballot and, if elected, then resign so that a presumably less objectionable Republican candidate could run in a special election. That's happened before in New York.

Collins has suspended his campaign. He may move out of state to get his name off the ballot. I would imagine that would make it difficult for him to continue accepting campaign contributions. --Bob

Rep. Collins is resigning his seat and will plead guilty to insider trading. --Bob

Be careful what you wish for, Flock.

If we get rid of all the swamp creatures, you won't have anyone left to support.
