The Meg is rated PG-13, which means that the amount of chomping, puppy or otherwise, that Megalodon does onscreen is likely to be somewhat limited and implied rather than shown in gory detail. And from the reviews I've seen, the film appears to be, if not exactly tongue-in-cheek, certainly self-aware of the conventions in the genre and plays with them somewhat during the course of the film. That could mean a cute puppy surviving in the midst of people being turned into shark chow.

What you see in preview is ultracute fluff-pup pup-paddling forward witnout a care in the world (in real life a pup would sense "predator near", I think & hope) ,& next you see/hear chompy stuff. Or you see those JAWS. Whatever.
I'm sure real fluff-pup was not harmed in the filming process.
