Fireball's Fantastic 500 -- Late 1980s, Part IV

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Sun Aug 12, 2018 11:29 am

I did a lot of driving around the city during the past two days, so I had to delay this portion of the countdown until after I got home from church. Anyway, here you go.

#50. You Win Again, the Bee Gees (1987)

This single from the group's E.S.P. album hit #1 in England, but made it only to #75 on the Hot 100.

#49. That's What Friends Are For, Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight, & Stevie Wonder (1985)

Rod Stewart recorded this Bacharach/Bayer Sager composition in 1982, but Dionne & Friends made this a #1 charity single.

#48. You're the Inspiration, Chicago (1985)

#47. This Time I Know It's for Real, Donna Summer (1989)

The final U.S. top ten hit for the undisputed disco queen.

#46. King for a Day, Thompson Twins (1985)

The last single and video to feature member Joseph Leeway, who took his Thompson Twins money and moved to California to study medicine. To this day, Dr. Leeway is a hypnotherapist in Tarzana.

#45. Invisible, Alison Moyet (1985)

It is an absolute travesty that Alf wasn't more successful in America than she should have been. The legendary Lamont Dozier wrote this beautiful and painful tune, which was released in the U.K. in late 1984 and made it to America in the spring of 1985.

#44. Make Me Lose Control, Eric Carmen (1988)

#43. The Best, Tina Turner (1989)

Yes, she is.

#42. Let's Go!, Wang Chung (1986)

Not as big a hit as "Everybody Have Fun Tonight", but the video was less prone to inducing epileptic seizures. Plus, it charted seven spots higher on the Hot 100 than "Dance Hall Days".

#41. Shower Me with Your Love, Surface (1988)

The first songs of the top 40 and yet another special announcement will come on Friday afternoon.
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)
