Small Business Ownership Among Black Americans Jumps 400% Since Trump's Election

NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, & CNN will try to keep this quiet. The Bobs will deny it. And still, both groups will say the Democratic Party is for the minorities. Yep

I have not heard good things about this source (Zero Hedge) from neutral reviews. It doesn't mean they are bad or that the story is not true, but I would rather hear this story from another source to feel more secure about it being accurate.

The actual source of the report is a company called Guidant Financial, who did the underlying survey. There's nothing there about their methodology of how they conducted the survey, making its reliability difficult to judge.

It's a little hard to have confidence in someone who posts as Tyler Durden.

At any rate, here is the Guidant Financial link that appears to be the source of the source [sic] of the story. I don't see any support for the 400% claim. If that's all there is, it looks like Tyler Durden's invention, or in the words of someone who's name escapes me, "fake news." --Bob

That's the point. You won't hear it from a source you 'feel' is more reliable, because they will tend to ignore it because it's detrimental to the left's narrative and it makes trump look good. You'll have to wait until they can figure out how to spin it so it doesn't make trump look good.

I thought I said neutral reviews, not the left?

Can you find support for the 400% claim in the original source material? I couldn't (and that's why I try hard to rely on primary sources). That's what makes it fake news. --Bob

The very same story, by the way, cites a Rasmussen poll to claim that approval of Donny among African Americans is at 36%. "Durden" links to a Rasmussen poll but I can't find any support for that claim either. --Bob

I don't think the article even supports that. It is titled, "Small Business Ownership Among Black Americans Jumps 400% Since Trump's Election." The second paragraph says, "The survey reveals that in 2018, 45% of small business owners were minorities - up from just 15% three years ago, with the majority of them belonging to African American owners."

Is that not a 200% increase?

The Rasmussen poll is real, but it's much higher than other recent polls that put Trump's support among blacks at 9-13%, which indicates it may be an outlier.

The Guidant Financial survey does not include any data about its methodology.

This article appears to be about the same survey, and the wording of the article suggests that the 2,600 small business owners surveyed were Guidant Financial customers. That could very well not be a representative sample of all small business owners.

Quote:
More than 2,600 current and aspiring business owners across the country responded to questions... In fact, 33 percent of State of Small Business respondents were in their 50s (the largest segment of business owners), and another 21 percent were age 60 and over. And age isn’t the only category with a widening audience. Compared to last year, Guidant clients had an 82 percent increase in the proportion of minority business owners, specifically with a higher percentage who identified as Hispanic and African American.

OMG you trump haters are so pathetic.

The economy is better than it's been in a long time. If it happened under Obama you'd have been cheering and BJ would be disseminating happy memes. It happens under trump and you argue about minutia. Either way, whoever is president has little to do with how many jobs there are. Can't you just be happy we're all a little more prosperous and productive? Or are you going to argue that we're not?

I'm definitely not. I'll be paying a lot more in taxes this year to fund Donny's tax cut for himself. And a lot of people will pay more in insurance premiums because Donny is sabotaging the Affordable Care Act. In addition, wages are stagnant. Not to mention how this idiotic tariffs are affecting and will affect the economy.

There's a reason Republicans aren't running on the economy and Democrats are. --Bob

Well I am, my tax rate is now 20%, but I have family and friends who certainly are not better off.

The title says Small Business Ownership by Blacks Jumps 400%, not the mix (or %) of small businesses. It also says the 15% to 45% jump is in minority ownership with the majority belonging to blacks, not all. From the data presented it is impossible to see exactly where the 400% comes from but:

Assuming a consistent sample of 2600
15% minority in the first sample would be 390
45% minority in the second sample would be 1170
Assuming of the original 390 identified as minority that 190 were black
Then if 760 of the 1170 were black that would be a 400% increase in black ownership of small businesses (190 to 760).

No they can't be happy because if minorities become self-supporting under capitalism then they won't vote Democrat or Socialist.

I don't know how you can type that with a straight face. The Republicans ARE running on the economy and Democrats are running on impeachment.

The United States economy IS in excellent shape for the moment, yes, as has been reported by many neutral or mainstream or whatever we are calling them news sources (I am thinking specifically of Bloomberg News and Associated Press, that I have read recently).

It remains to be seen how the trade situation will play out, but I agree, for right now, some stuff looks good. I was nto questioning that generality, only the specifics of the original story.

The Republicans are running commercials on immigration and Nancy Pelosi, not on the wonderful results from their tax cut, the one that they said would lead to an easy victory in this year's election.

No Democrats I know of are running on an impeachment platform. A couple of lesser known candidates have brought it up, but most of the Democratic candidates are running on the issues. As this article notes, Republicans are talking about impeachment far more than the Democrats are:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/re ... democrats/

Quote:
As part of FiveThirtyEight’s project looking at what types of Democrats are doing well in primaries for Senate, House and governor this year, we looked at the campaign website for each of the 811 people who, as of Aug. 7, had appeared on the ballot in Democratic primaries for races with no Democratic incumbent. Only one candidate (Nate Kleinman, running for a House seat in New Jersey) featured a call for impeaching Trump on his website. And he lost his primary, getting just 9 percent of the vote in a four-way race.

And the latest Cohen and Manafort developments haven’t seemed to bring a surge of calls for impeachment, either. For example, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the party’s nominee in a very Democratic-leaning House district in New York City and a new hero of the left wing of the Democratic Party, has sent out several tweets since the news about Cohen and Manafort — none of which mentioned impeachment.

US jobless claims fall to near 49-year low

Quote:
The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits fell to near a 49-year low last week.

he data pointed to sustained labor market strength that should continue to underpin economic growth.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 10,000 to 203,000 for the week ended Sept. 1, the lowest level since December 1969, the Labor Department said.
