Fireball's Fantastic 500 -- Late 1980s, Part VIII

#1 Post by Pastor Fireball » Sun Sep 09, 2018 11:25 am

Hey, you've finally made it! Mid-January to early September. I did warn everybody that the 1970s and 1980s would make up two-thirds of this entire series. All of that ends today. We'll be coasting through the rest of the rock era during the next three months.

And now, my final ten of the 1980s!

#10. You're Not Alone, Chicago (1989)

#9. Seven Wonders, Fleetwood Mac (1987)

#8. Easy Lover, Philip Bailey & Phil Collins (1985)

Philip B.'s biggest hit outside of Earth Wind & Fire and one of Phil C.'s many big hits outside of Genesis.

#7. Piano in the Dark, Brenda Russell (1988)

#6. Angel Eyes, Jeff Healey Band (1989)

#5. Man in the Mirror, Michael Jackson (1988)

It's amazing that we had gone this deep into the countdown without a second song from the King of Pop. You have to go all the way back to the very first week of this series to find the first MJ song.

#4. Don't Know Much, Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville (1989)

Originally recorded in 1981 by Bill Medley--one half of the Righteous Brothers--Linda & Aaron turned this into one of the most beautiful duets in pop history.

#3. Your Wildest Dreams, the Moody Blues (1986)

When making out this cowntdown last year, I had prepared a rant on why the Moody Blues still weren't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Thank God I threw it away.

#2. Nightshift, the Commodores (1985)

The only major hit by the Commodores, post-Lionel. Such a beautiful and poignant tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson.

Cue the imaginary and obligatory drumroll! My all-time favorite song of the late 1980s is...

#1. Always, Atlantic Starr (1987)

This song has to be at the top because April and I chose this song to play when we took our first dance as a married couple. It was, and always will be, the perfect love song.

That's it! The 1990s commence later this week!
