I had not thought of the term "Jailbait" for a long time. This is/was a term used (in the 1980's anyway) by 17 -19 year old boys to describe girls too young to "Be With" for the simple reason that you could go to jail.
While SSS always views the younger (15/16 whatever) girls as star-struck innocents totally in awe of the older boy let's just say not all younger girls were always forthcoming about their age and the term "Jailbait" was often used as a warning to other boys about girls they should stay away from because of their age.
FTR-I was pretty innocent and never even came close to being with anybody at that point in my life. However, I viewed its various usages among my peers.

Most states (I haven't checked, perhaps all now) have "Romeo and Juliet" laws that protect underage consensual sex as long as there's only a small difference (depending on the state) in the ages of the teens.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.
