I got 50

#1 Post by kusch » Thu Sep 27, 2018 8:10 am

In the middle of a cruise to Alaska. I can now say I visited all 50 states. Will be in Victoria BC tomorrow and back to LA on Monday morning. Sorry Saucy, Margaret's sister the "cruise queen" has our entire day in Victoria planned.

Very cool! I'm stuck at 45 but hopefully with my new job I can knock a couple off through work and racking up FF miles and hotel points the Mrs. and I can hit the others for a reduced cost.

One of my missing states is North Dakota. This will need to be a work related visit as the Mrs. refuses to go because she hates (with a passion) the movie Fargo. It's one of my favorites, as is the series. My new employer has a major operation/office there in a different division, but I will likely get the opportunity to visit them in the next 12 months.

The other four are: ME, NH, WV, and AK.

I'm not as well-traveled as the three of you yet. I've visited only 34 of the states. The last new states I visited were Oklahoma, Kansas, and Washington two years ago.

I haven't posted my county collection map here in a long time, so here is what it looks like now--only 20 counties left until I hit 1,000: http://www.mob-rule.com/user/brb_thefireball

Congratulations! That's the last state I need to visit to make my 50. I've driven to each of the lower 48 (+ D.C.).

Let's see what I need. I might make a comment on some I've visited.

Alabama - This was a drive through on the way to my cousin's wedding. Still counts, though.
Alaska - Salmon fishing! Wildlife watching! AK is great!
Arizona - The Four Corners is about 90 minutes of driving time from here. But I've been there lots of times. SprotsOlderBrother has lived there about 35 years.
Arkansas - Drive through.
California - Many times -- relatives there.
Georgia - Location of the cousin's wedding.
Hawaii - One hour layover on the way to Australia.
Idaho - I was four years old and don't remember it, but I was there.
Illinois - Drive through. Also O'Hare Airport.
Indiana - See Illinois.
Iowa - BFF's daughter's wedding.
Kansas - Drive through.
Louisiana - See Alabama. We did stop in Nawlins though.
Maryland - SteelersFanSis lived in Annapolis for a while.
Michigan - Ex's grandparents lived there.
Minnesota - Drive through.
Mississippi - See Alabama.
Missouri - Drive through.
Montana - West Yellowstone! Beautiful little town.
Nebraska - Drive through.
Nevada - Las Vegas.
New Jersey - Drive through.
New Mexico- Frequently.
New York - Pea lives there!
Ohio - SteelersFanBrother lives in Cleveland
Oklahoma - Where SC hangs her hat!
Oregon - See Idaho
Pennsylvania - SteelersFan's home base until he moved out to God's Country.
South Dakota - Visited my college BFF there.
Texas - Several times.
Utah - Many times.
Virginia - Drive through.
Washington - Conference in Seattle.
West Virginia - Drive through
Wisconsin - Drive through
Wyoming - Eclipse!

Connecticut - Nope
Delaware - Nope
Florida - Nope
Kentucky - Nope
Maine - Nope
Massachusetts - Nope
New Hampshire - Nope.
North Carolina - Nope
North Dakota - Nope
Rhode Island - Nope
South Carolina - Nope
Tennessee - Nope
Vermont - Nope

Thought I was more than that. Oh well.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
