Florida teacher says she was fired for refusing to give students partial credit on an assignment they didn't turn in

Her principal fired her because she refused to record grades of 50% for students who failed to turn in an assignment.

The comments include many who say they were teachers, but quit because of similar rules. Some even stated that the minimum they were allowed to record was 60%.

Yep. I commented on the story on FB. It is true. My wife has the same frustration. The public education system, much like the social welfare system, is a "show up" only system. No accountability. Non-achievers are being pushed through. They will be life long Democrats on the public tit. I have no doubt that is the plan, and it is working.

I can believe this happened. The principal is probably concerned about his own job rating, which depends in part on student performance. Of course they wouldn't put the "no zero grades" policy in writing. And the teacher's file has some chickenshit explanation for her firing that has nothing to do with the real reason.

There are school districts here that have that policy, and it is documented in the student handbook and curriculum sheets.

It actually came to the benefit of my youngest. Her Spanish teacher gave her a 0/10 for a worksheet right before the end of the Hexter. My daughter asked her about it, because she had done all of the work as far as she knew. She said that it was related to greetings, the time to turn it in had past, so she couldn't do it now. However, when the Hexter grades came out, she had a 50% (5/10) on the assignment, which allowed her to keep an A in the class. (There had been so few points that just those 5 points were the difference between a solid A and a low B.)

We had a similar policy in the district I worked in my last 22 years in education. It made for some mighty unmotivated students.
