Caltech does it again

#1 Post by Bob78164 » Thu Oct 04, 2018 3:08 pm

With yesterday's announcement of the 2018 winners of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, Professor Frances Arnold of my alma mater joins the illustrious ranks of its faculty members who have become Nobel Laureates.

But I don't think anything will be the e-mail I got about three years ago (if memory serves). It featured a large picture of one of my classmates. My first thought when I got it was, "Why is Caltech sending around a picture of Eric?" Then I read the text and said: "Holy crap! One of my classmates won the Nobel Prize!" (Eric Betzig.) --Bob

Congratulations, Bob and Caltech!

Old Nassau can share a bit of the glory since, like Kip Thorne last year, Prof. Arnold is a Princeton alum.

I'm sure Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill in Pittsburgh, and U.C. Berkeley, where she got her PH.D., are also sharing pride in her.
