It turns out that a lot of Republicans in Congress appear to like and respect Rep. Waters.
According to Rep. Patrick McHenry (R - NC), "I have found my relationship with the congresswoman has been that she is a smart, tough negotiator. And while she certainly is far to the left ideologically, there are areas where we can find reasonable compromise.”
Rep. Frank Lucas (R - OK) says, “There are many, many things that Maxine and I are completely, diametrically the opposite on. But I have dealt with her enough on issues to understand she can see the whole picture. It is possible to negotiate with her and she’ll keep her word. That’s an important thing in Congress. Not everybody does that anymore.”
Rep. Waters is in line to chair the House Financial Services Committee if Democrats take the House next week. Both Rep. McHenry and Rep. Lucas are in contention to be the Committee's ranking member (or chair if Republicans hold the House). --Bob
