Stan was also a veteran.

I was practically waiting at the pier for the ship to take me overseas when I got a tap on the shoulder, and some colonel said, "You worked in comics?" Yes. "We have a job for you." And he sent me to Astoria, Queens, where they had the Army's Training Film Division. The next thing I knew, I was writing training films, and I'm sitting next to [playwright] William Saroyan and Theodor Geisel [Dr. Seuss] and the guys [Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts] who wrote the Jimmy Cagney movie White Heat. I was churning this stuff out — it was the least I could do for my country.

I knew it was coming soon, given his age and how quickly he seemed to deteriorate after his wife passed, but it still makes me very sad. His effect on pop culture is massive. Along with mostly Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he created characters that are even bigger today with the massive popularity of the movies.

The X-Men, The Fantastic Four (including the Tragic Ben Grimm aka The Thing), Iron Man, Thor, Daredevil, The Hulk, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant Man, The Avengers, Nick Fury, and many more. And of course, one of my favorite characters in any medium, Spider-Man.

PLUS all of the iconic villains like Doctor Doom, The Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Magneto, and so on, as well as the myriad of supporting characters and sidekicks.

Wikipedia needed two pages to list em all, and I;m sure it missed some...

Thanks for all the entertainment, from when I first learned to read to the movies I love today. 'Nuff Said!

Interesting little tidbit I came across. He has the highest grossing film resume of any actor ever.

Actually Marvel Studios has indicated that Stan had additional cameos already filmed, so I would expect to see him in Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 at the least.
