I think I may need to find a reason to buy some Gillette products. That last line really gets to me. --Bob

Not in this thread, I didn't. But, since you bring it up, from your comment I guess you believe they should have, what? Ignored it? Patted him on the head? In which case you'd be 'shocked and appalled' that nothing was done. Bless your heart - it must be exhausting being you.

The target demographic self-identifies
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

You think that opposing violence and overtly opposing blatant sexism is somehow emasculating? We must have very different views of masculinity. --Bob

Why don't we explore toxic femininity? Every manufactured politically correct concept should give it's opposite equal time.

Watch the movie "The Lighthorsemen"-That movie is truly the best a man be.

While "Second-Lions" is good-The Lighthorsemen captures so many dynamics of true masculinity it is awesome.

My favorite scene is when the Australians walk into a bar and get razzed by the English-with the obvious possibility of bar fight developing between the 2 groups.

However, both sides know that next week they will be fighting side-by side against the Turks.

Another vision (if you will) of how true masculinity works is from a favorite book of mine. "Quartered Safe Out Here" by George MacDonald Fraser is his memoir of WW2 in Burma.

Fraser had a squad-mate named "Forster." Nobody really liked Forster, he was meaner than the rest and a bit of a bully. However, when you found yourself hesitating in the mouth of Jap bunker; You would look to your right and Forster would be at your side-Right where you always knew he would be.

Every group of guys has a "Forster." Maybe every group of guys needs a Forster. OTOH, the Forsters also need the group of guys-His rough edges get sanded off and they all make each other better.

Heard on the internet
“My wife’s son really liked your ad”

Also

“Gillette that’s not a complement”

I'm kind of curious how you know how to separate the guys like Forster from the bullies who prove to have no backbone when they find themselves in an actual fight, because I sure wouldn't want to have one of them in the bunker with me.

For what it's worth, public reaction to the Gillette commercial has been substantially negative (while the Colin Kaepernick response was quite positive) and it hasn't just been the right wingers who haven't like it.
