Lyrically Speaking - 1/22/19
Well, who else did you expect to follow up Evil Squirrel? Yes, it is I, the evil but lovable raccoon who will host this week's Tuesday Wordplay game. Every song's got a word in common in the title... you know the drill. Someone wanna scritch me while I finish off this dead possum I found in Holly's trash can? Is today Raccoon Appreciation Day? No? Well, that fucking sucks...
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...
1. You know I work all day
To get you money to buy you things.
2. We were so in love you and me
On the boulevard wild and free
Giving all we got, we laid it down
Taking every shot, we took the town
3. I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine
4. Well, our hearts beat like thunder
I don't know why they don't explode
You got your hands in my back pockets
And Sam Cooke's singin' on the radio
5. We went streaking in the park
Skinny dipping in the dark
Then had a ménage à trois
6. You say that you're at home when you phone me
And how much you really care
Though you keep telling me that you're lonely
I'll know if someone is there
7. You need the evening action,
a place to dine, a glass of wine,
a little late romance.
It's a chain reaction.
You'll see the people of the world
coming out to dance.
8. Must be the gypsy in their soul
They have a need to rock and roll
They always will, they're out there still
9. Oh-- I won't talk about the past
How love's supposed to last forever
And you -- Don't have to take a stand
Lay out any plans
10. My brother Bill and my other brother Jack,
Belly full of beer and a possum in a sack,
Fifteen kids in the front porch light
11. We like a longneck and a good old song.
Turn it up and then we'll sing along. Sing along.
12. She's just sixteen years old
Leave her alone, they say
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the word of the day in its title.
Image Bonus: If you know the magic word, then show me a fitting image.

Hard Day's Night, Beatles
2. We were so in love you and me
On the boulevard wild and free
Giving all we got, we laid it down
Taking every shot, we took the town
We were
Running with the night,
Playing in the shadows
Running with the night, Lionel Richie
I guess this means I can't use All Night Long for the Krox.
3. I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine
Oh good grief, this again.
One night in Bangkok, Murray Head
4. Well, our hearts beat like thunder
I don't know why they don't explode
You got your hands in my back pockets
And Sam Cooke's singin' on the radio
Night
5. We went streaking in the park
Skinny dipping in the dark
Then had a ménage à trois
Night
6. You say that you're at home when you phone me
And how much you really care
Though you keep telling me that you're lonely
I'll know if someone is there
The night has a thousand eyes, Bobby Vee. Excellent song. We need more like this. Make it happen, LSBoy.
7. You need the evening action,
a place to dine, a glass of wine,
a little late romance.
It's a chain reaction.
You'll see the people of the world
coming out to dance.
Night
8. Must be the gypsy in their soul
They have a need to rock and roll
They always will, they're out there still
Night
9. Oh-- I won't talk about the past
How love's supposed to last forever
And you -- Don't have to take a stand
Lay out any plans
Night
10. My brother Bill and my other brother Jack,
Belly full of beer and a possum in a sack,
Fifteen kids in the front porch light
Louisiana Saturday Night, . . . I give up.
11. We like a longneck and a good old song.
Turn it up and then we'll sing along. Sing along.
Night
12. She's just sixteen years old
Leave her alone, they say
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
Night

Both me and Wiki know this one. It is A Hard Day's Night by the Beadles. This is a song the Sirius people play a lot in my mom's car. We all sing along.

We don't have another song to help us know the magic word, but there are only four choices, right? (Nobody would make "A" into a magic word, would they?) We went eeny-meeny and ended on moe, so Wiki found this picture for "Night." That's not Wiki in the picture, it's a wolf. Close enough. Besides, according to ancestry DNA tests, we both are 1,024th wolf. (Okay, that's a joke. If anybody tried to swab Wiki's mouth to get a DNA sample, she would eat the Q-tip.)

1. You know I work all day
To get you money to buy you things.

2. We were so in love you and me
On the boulevard wild and free
Giving all we got, we laid it down
Taking every shot, we took the town
Running With The Night - Lionel Richie
3. I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine
One Night In Bangkok - Murray Head (Now that I no longer plan the entire LSWE out in advance, I have to make sure I get this one in as erly as possible. 12th straight year in the LSWE.... and counting!)
4. Well, our hearts beat like thunder
I don't know why they don't explode
You got your hands in my back pockets
And Sam Cooke's singin' on the radio
Ain't Even Done With The Night - John Cougar (Mellencamp)
5. We went streaking in the park
Skinny dipping in the dark
Then had a ménage à trois
Last Friday Night - Katy Perry (First heard this song somewhere in southwestern Wisconsin on my way to Minneapolis in 2011...)
6. You say that you're at home when you phone me
And how much you really care
Though you keep telling me that you're lonely
I'll know if someone is there
The Night Has A Thousand Eyes - Bobby Vee (One of my favorite oldies, if I can agree with Sprots for once...)
7. You need the evening action,
a place to dine, a glass of wine,
a little late romance.
It's a chain reaction.
You'll see the people of the world
coming out to dance.
Give Me The Night - George Benson
8. Must be the gypsy in their soul
They have a need to rock and roll
They always will, they're out there still

Cool Night - Paul Davis
10. My brother Bill and my other brother Jack,
Belly full of beer and a possum in a sack,
Fifteen kids in the front porch light
Louisiana Saturday Night - Mel McDaniel (Only included because it's a Mecca Radio earworm and the line about fifteen kids in the front porch light will always remind me of evenings at Granny's as a kid...)
11. We like a longneck and a good old song.
Turn it up and then we'll sing along. Sing along.
All Night Long - Joe Walsh
12. She's just sixteen years old
Leave her alone, they say
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
Into The Night - Benny Mardones (One of a handful of songs that re-emerged on the charts in 1989 years after it came out. What a weird year...)
Image Bonus: If you know the magic word, then show me a fitting image.
Apparently a subtheme of this game was pairs. We had a pair of lunar eclipses, a pair of Van Gogh paintings (one of them Photoshopped), two crappy directors (What a twist!), two howling wolves and even a couple bottles of hooch. Looking for a lone wolf (no pun intended), I decided to award the IBB to AD since I've always been a night owl (not one LRB was singing about) and remember quite the days of TV stations signing off in the 80's. It always had a kind of uncanny valley feeling to it... even disregarding Poltergeist. This also keeps the streak alive of a different IBB winner each day of the LSWE! I love sharing...

The thought of Bob and fortified wine just didn't compute, so I checked his picture and it all made sense. Damn the bottle alone probably cost more than a case of the ol' Evening Express...littlebeast13 wrote: Earl and Bob each get a JJC point for gettng drunk together...
Since I'd never heard of it, I actually looked it up. Come to find out, that's the name of a packaging marketer! Yep, Bob ain't gettin' drunk on that.....ha!
