Lyrically Speaking - 1/23/19

#1 Post by Charlie Brown's Teacher » Wed Jan 23, 2019 7:31 am

Wah wah wah wahwahwahwahhh, wah wah wah wah wahwahwahhh wah? Wah wah wah wahwah wahwah waaaah wahwah. Wah wahwah wah wahwahwah wah wahwah wah wah wahwah! Wah wah wah wah wah wahwahwahhhh... #WahWah

1. It's like thunder and lightning,
the way you love me is frightening.

2. On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue

3. I've kicked the habit
shed my skin
this is the new stuff
I go dancing in, we go dancing in

4. If your broken heart should need repair
Then I'm the man to see
I whisper sweet things, you tell all your friends
They'll come runnin' to me

5. I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a newborn baby it just happens ev'ryday

6. Now, how can it be
That a love carved out of caring
Fashioned by fate could suffer so hard
From the games played once too often

7. Though we had our fling
I just never would suspect a thing
Till that little bell began to ring in my head
In my head

8. We just want to dance here, someone stole the stage
They call us irresponsible, write us off the page

9. I know a place
Ain't nobody cryin'
Ain't nobody worried
Ain't no smilin' faces

10. My best friend took a week's vacation to forget her
His girl took a week's worth of Valium and slept
Now he's guilt stricken sobbing with his head on the floor
Thinks about her now and how he never really wept

11. I'm solid gold
I've got the goods
They stand when I walk
Through the neighborhoods

12. I am just a worthless liar
I am just an imbecile
I will only complicate you
Trust in me and fall as well

1. It's like thunder and lightning,

Knock On Wood-Eddie Floyd. We do not acknowledge the disco atrocity by someone who shared a surname with a certain rocker who used to be the lead singer of Faces, that stained the airwaves over a decade later.

Well, the fancy term in my school days was "Industrial Arts", but it was more commonly known as "Shop Class". In my case, it was also known as "The class in which T-Bone brought home a tie rack that looked like it was designed by Pablo Picasso".

Spoiler
Our streak has ended. Me and Wiki were pretty excited about having known a song for three days in a row. We didn't know any of today's songs. A new streak will begin again any day now.

In the meantime, Wiki was sad that she didn't get to post a picture. She is turning into a Google monster. She keeps trying to push my mom and me away from the computer so she can look for more pictures. This is very good for her home school preparations, but it's as annoying as all get out. I finally told her that she could post something if she would promise to read three poems from When We Were Very Young, by Mr. A.A. Milne. She needs to improve upon her reading skills. She promised. This is it. She surprised me by turning into a YouTube monster. She was very, very interested in dog high jumping competitions. She wants to be a professional athlete now. The first movie she liked lasted something like 28 minutes. I said no, nobody but her would want to watch that. Then she found this one, which is a lot shorter. I said okay. It is kind of impressive, but you don't have to watch it if you don't like dogs or high jumping or the song Jump. I just want the computer back for a while.

Spoiler
Wah wah wah wahwahwahwahhh, wah wah wah wah wahwahwahhh wah? Wah wah wah wahwah wahwah waaaah wahwah. Wah wahwah wah wahwahwah wah wahwah wah wah wahwah! Wah wah wah wah wah wahwahwahhhh... #WahWah

1. It's like thunder and lightning,
the way you love me is frightening.

Knock on Wood - David Bowie

Eddie Floyd, Amii Stewart, yeah, yeah.... the only version of this song I actually own is Bowie's, albeit on 8 track....

Fun Fact: A few months ago I was wondering who was still actually alive from The Blues Brothers, what with the somewhat recent deaths of Kathleen Freeman, Carrie Fisher, Matt Murphy, Aretha Franklin, etc. As I was checking that out, I learned that this song was co-written by Steve "the Colonel" Cropper. That stuck out to me because either the song is younger or Cropper is older (or both) than I thought.

2. On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue

Close to You - Carpenters

3. I've kicked the habit
shed my skin
this is the new stuff
I go dancing in, we go dancing in

Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel

This song? Yeah, still hate it...and your school was very different from mine if there were sledgehammers in woodshop...ha!

4. If your broken heart should need repair
Then I'm the man to see
I whisper sweet things, you tell all your friends
They'll come runnin' to me

Handyman - James Taylor

5. I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a newborn baby it just happens ev'ryday

Paint It, Black - Rolling Stones

Got to have the comma!

6. Now, how can it be
That a love carved out of caring
Fashioned by fate could suffer so hard
From the games played once too often

7. Though we had our fling
I just never would suspect a thing
Till that little bell began to ring in my head
In my head

I Saw the Light - Todd Rundgren

8. We just want to dance here, someone stole the stage
They call us irresponsible, write us off the page

We Built This City - Jefferson Starship

Vapours, Head, Starship.....I got bingo!!1

9. I know a place
Ain't nobody cryin'
Ain't nobody worried
Ain't no smilin' faces

I'll Take You There - Staples Singers

10. My best friend took a week's vacation to forget her
His girl took a week's worth of Valium and slept
Now he's guilt stricken sobbing with his head on the floor
Thinks about her now and how he never really wept

11. I'm solid gold
I've got the goods
They stand when I walk
Through the neighborhoods

Makin' It - David Naughton

Great....now this damned thing is going to be going through my head for the next several days, intermittently with I'm a Pepper.

12. I am just a worthless liar
I am just an imbecile
I will only complicate you
Trust in me and fall as well

Sober - Tool

Too bad I knew this, those lyrics are ripe for some snarky hits...

The kind with sledgehammers, apparently....

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of today's game.

Hammer to Fall - Queen

1. It's like thunder and lightning,
the way you love me is frightening.
Knock On Wood - Amii Stewart or Eddie Floyd (Both are good, though you know which version I prefer. I think I briefly listened to the Bowie version once and didn't care for it...)

2. On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue
Close To You - The Carpenters

3. I've kicked the habit
shed my skin
this is the new stuff
I go dancing in, we go dancing in
Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel ([RodneyDangerfield]I grew up in a rough neighborhood, I tell ya![/RodneyDangerfield])

4. If your broken heart should need repair
Then I'm the man to see
I whisper sweet things, you tell all your friends
They'll come runnin' to me
Handyman - James Taylor or Jimmy Jones (And I guess Del Shannon too, which I was unaware of..)

5. I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a newborn baby it just happens ev'ryday
Paint It, Black - Rolling Stones

6. Now, how can it be
That a love carved out of caring
Fashioned by fate could suffer so hard
From the games played once too often
Something About You - Level 42 (I hear this song a lot and barely recognized the lyrics when I looked it up. This song's even worse in that regard than the second verses of Rebel Yell and Our Lips Are Sealed...)

7. Though we had our fling
I just never would suspect a thing
Till that little bell began to ring in my head
In my head
I Saw The Light - Todd Rundgren (Homonyms for the win!)

8. We just want to dance here, someone stole the stage
They call us irresponsible, write us off the page
We Built This City - Starplane... er, Starship (Why do people hate this? Why???)

9. I know a place
Ain't nobody cryin'
Ain't nobody worried
Ain't no smilin' faces
I'll Take You There - Staple Singers

10. My best friend took a week's vacation to forget her
His girl took a week's worth of Valium and slept
Now he's guilt stricken sobbing with his head on the floor
Thinks about her now and how he never really wept
The Freshmen - The Verve Pipe (Why there is both a Verve and Verve Pipe is beyond me. But this song's slightly better than that shitty ass Just Plain Verve song...)

11. I'm solid gold
I've got the goods
They stand when I walk
Through the neighborhoods
Makin' It - David Naughton

12. I am just a worthless liar
I am just an imbecile
I will only complicate you
Trust in me and fall as well
Tool - Sober (Thank you Beavis & Butthead for introducing me to this wonderful song in a genre I'd never willingly listen to!)

What subject is Charlie Brown's Teacher teaching today? (3 points) - Shop class! (Anything remotely close to this was accepted)

Image Bonus: Got a visual aid for the teacher's class? - Poor Earl's Mary Jane farm just couldn't top Krox's lesbian cows... but the shop class bong had no equal in this game. So she finally gets to break some off the IBB stash...

JJC Points:

frank gets 2 JJC points for Kroxing Closer (How the HELL did I not think to use NiN?) and for sneaking pornography into class...

Weasel gets 1.84372894773033 JJC points because I wanted to give him two, but cut it off too early...

Beebs gets a supermax for both knowing a few songs and still being funny (Ed Gein's 42nd Cousin Twice Removed and Pickled slayed me...)

Vandal gets a JJC point for bad tool puns...

Krox gets 3 JJC points for making a buttcrack in shop... er, industrial arts class...

melly gets a JJC point for Biblical carpenters...

Panic gets a JJC point for a picture I had a hell of a time interpreting. I thought at first it was supposed to be carved in the shape of a squirrel, then I finally recognized the LP of Michigan (Detroit! Duh!)...

TBone gets a supermax for Miami Vise, Kenny skipping shop class, and for being such a huge fan of disco...

AD gets 3 JJC points for sawing Santa Claus and for how to build a shitter...

jarnon gets a JJC point for the version of the studio I'm not familiar with...

Esto gets 2 JJC points for shop class gone wrong...

Sprots gets 2 JJC points for Bob Vila, who despite me and my sisters loving to mock him when we were kids, I hadn't actually thought of him in a while...

Lizbit and Wiki get a JJC point for the video a substitute teacher might bring in to entertain the class (True story: a sub in my shop class in 8th grade once brought in a western type movie for us to watch that had some female nudity. Always a smart choice for a room full of horny teenage boys...)

Earl gets 3 JJC points for being a Pepper and a Stoner...

Anon gets 2 JJC points for copying off Weasel's class project and for being the only one to take the bait on #12...

Bob gets 2 JJC points and a B+ on his class project...

Wow, Mr. esto! Wiki is asleep right now, but I will make sure she sees it tomorrow. Maybe it will inspire her to do a scientific research paper on The Parabolic Analysis of Dog High Jumping when she gets to the writing-scientific-research-papers stage in Home School High School.

Thank you.
