Lyrically Speaking - 1/31/19

#1 Post by Blind Beast » Thu Jan 31, 2019 3:45 am

If any of you doubted before that LB is a sadistic bastard, well just look at what game he decided to let me host in the LSWE. Yeah, the theme of this game is something I can't even appreciate... SEEING! I'd conk that no good troll over the head with my cane if I could find where he's hiding. Sorry, but there isn't a Braille version of this game available...

Edited to add: I apparently did this theme only two years ago, as my brain is about as good as my eyes. Oh well, enjoy it again!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. I've been meaning to tell you
I've got this feelin' that won't subside
I look at you and I fantasize

2. Heavenly bound cause heaven's got a number when she's spinning me around,
kissing is a color. Her loving is a wild dog

3. I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin’ for

4. Come to me tonight,
come to me tonight,
taking everything in sight,
except for the strings on my kite.

5. Some silicone sister with a manager mister
Told me I got what it takes

6. And all I could taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight

7. How does it feel when the girl next to you
says she loves you
It seem so unfair when there's love everywhere
but there's none for me

8. Tonight's the night, I'm gonna push it to the limit
I live all of my years in a single minute

9. Nightfall covers me
But you know, the plans I'm making
Still oversee
Could it be the whole earth opening wide

10. She has many guises
She`ll do what you want her to
Playing dead and sweet submission
Cracks the whip deadpan on cue

11. I see you standing in the alleys and the hallways
Wait a second, you're gone now
I run to touch you but you vanish through the doorway

12. On holiday, love in the 90's
Is paranoid on sunny beaches
Take your chances looking for

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains some reference to the eyes or seeing.

Image Bonus: Jeepers creepers, where'd you get those peepers?

*** EDITED: Upon further reflection, what was at my first glance a creative if somewhat juvenile attempt at humor points on my part revealed itself to me to actually be highly offensive. I have done this without looking at any comments regarding said attempt at humor, and I apologize for this regardless of whether or not any comments have been posted...it is most assuredly not who I am, other than someone who sometimes opens his mouth before thinking things through. - AD

8. Tonight's the night, I'm gonna push it to the limit
I live all of my years in a single minute

Double Vision - Foreigner

9. Nightfall covers me
But you know, the plans I'm making
Still oversee
Could it be the whole earth opening wide

10. She has many guises
She`ll do what you want her to
Playing dead and sweet submission
Cracks the whip deadpan on cue

Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes

11. I see you standing in the alleys and the hallways
Wait a second, you're gone now
I run to touch you but you vanish through the doorway

12. On holiday, love in the 90's
Is paranoid on sunny beaches
Take your chances looking for

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains some reference to the eyes or seeing.

Earache My Eye - Cheech & Chong

I was going to use Basketball Jones yesterday except I thought it was too close to ball which I thought was not allowed. So, I'm definitely getting my C&C on today. Everybody dance now!

Image Bonus: Jeepers creepers, where'd you get those peepers?

Like you are with blood, I am with eyes, I generally have an idea which image I want to use, so I rarely browse anyway, but I definitely wasn't going to this time. Nor will I be looking at anybody else's image (Esto nearly sent me into orbit yesterday, and not in a good way). Which doesn't matter because mine is definitely the superior choice.

Please don't tell me that you've never seen Young Frankenstein....

Spoiler
Me and Wiki probably won't get any points today. We don't know any of these songs or anybody who ever sang them. We liked these lyrics, though --
2. Heavenly bound cause heaven's got a number when she's spinning me around,
kissing is a color. Her loving is a wild dog
We can't even figure out what this song is about! Is it about some new kind of rubbery dog toy with a built-in water sprayer?
5. Some silicone sister with a manager mister
Told me I got what it takes
We think this one could be about obedience class, except for the part about the whip. (Treats work lots better!) --
10. She has many guises
She`ll do what you want her to
Playing dead and sweet submission
Cracks the whip deadpan on cue
And Wiki says this is the true story of how she got put in jail at the Animal Shelter, as told by the dogcatcher --
11. I see you standing in the alleys and the hallways
Wait a second, you're gone now
I run to touch you but you vanish through the doorway
So, anyway, Wiki went searching for an image of a wild dog, but ended up with a tiny movie about a crazy dog. That dog does have jeepers creepers peepers, though.

Hungry Eyes - Eric Carmen (I went on an Eric Carmen/Raspberries kick last year and bought several albums from each. I might have known this one before that, but there's no guarantee.)

kissing is a color. Her loving is a wild dog

The Look - Roxette

3. I think I can make it now, the pain is gone

Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin’ for

come to me tonight,
taking everything in sight,
except for the strings on my kite.

Judy in Disguise (with Glasses) - Dunno

5. Some silicone sister with a manager mister
Told me I got what it takes

Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band

6. And all I could taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight

Iris - Goo Goo Dolls

7. How does it feel when the girl next to you
says she loves you
It seem so unfair when there's love everywhere
but there's none for me

Some Guys Have All the Luck - Rod Stewart

8. Tonight's the night, I'm gonna push it to the limit
I live all of my years in a single minute

Double Vision - Foreigner

But you know, the plans I'm making

A View to a Kill - Duran Duran

10. She has many guises
She`ll do what you want her to
Playing dead and sweet submission

1. I've been meaning to tell you
I've got this feelin' that won't subside
I look at you and I fantasize
Hungry Eyes - Eric Carmen (I apparently missed this song the first time around and learned of its existence in my dreaded, mandatory PE dance class in 1992...)

2. Heavenly bound cause heaven's got a number when she's spinning me around,
kissing is a color. Her loving is a wild dog
The Look - Roxette (This is a great song that I've never really paid attention to how weird the lyrics are before...)

3. I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin’ for
I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash

4. Come to me tonight,
come to me tonight,
taking everything in sight,
except for the strings on my kite.
Judy In Disguise With Parentheses - John Fred and His Playboy Band (Seriously... this is why I can't stand parentheticals. "With Glasses" had no business being walled off from the rest of the title, because nobody calls it just "Judy in Disguise!" And no, I was unaware the theme element was a parethetical when I put the song in here...)

5. Some silicone sister with a manager mister
Told me I got what it takes
Blinded By The Light - Manfred Mann

6. And all I could taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls (Hootie and the Blowfish's main competition for worst band of the 90's...)

7. How does it feel when the girl next to you
says she loves you
It seem so unfair when there's love everywhere
but there's none for me
Some Guys Have All The Luck - Rod Stewart (Rods and cones and rods and cones and rods and cones and rods and cones...)

8. Tonight's the night, I'm gonna push it to the limit
I live all of my years in a single minute
Double Vision - Foreigner (Supposedly this song was once played by the Veterans Stadium announcer prior to a plate appearance after the Phillies' Alex Arias doubled three times. It apparently coincided with a bad call that had just gone against Philadelphia and drew a nasty look from the umpires...)

9. Nightfall covers me
But you know, the plans I'm making
Still oversee
Could it be the whole earth opening wide
A View To A Kill - Duran Duran (James Bond's only #001...)

10. She has many guises
She`ll do what you want her to
Playing dead and sweet submission
Cracks the whip deadpan on cue
Peek A Boo - Siouxie and the Banshees (Johnny Mercer's estate gets royalties off this song, a fact I learned when I featured it on my blog...)

11. I see you standing in the alleys and the hallways
Wait a second, you're gone now
I run to touch you but you vanish through the doorway
Mirage - Tommy James and the Shondells (My Dad used to have a cassette of Tommy's greatest hits that got a lot of play in the van on road trips. Apparently, this song was not on it...)

12. On holiday, love in the 90's
Is paranoid on sunny beaches
Take your chances looking for
Girls And Boys - Blur (Neither of the players who ID'd this one picked up the Annie Bonus. Blur had three songs that apparently got some chart recognition, and I surprisingly know and like them all...)

Image Bonus: Jeepers creepers, where'd you get those peepers?

I deliberated longer on the IBB for this game than any other this year. I loved a lot of them... Weasel's was hilarious, melly's made me giggle, AD tickled a happy spot with Max Headroom... but coming out of the scrum in the end was TBone's leering wolf eyes. Tex Avery toons were the best, and those were the best peepers that weren't actually creepers. TBone gets the five points!

JJC Points:

Vandal gets 3 JJC points for more Zappa and for making my eyes hurt...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for organic eyes...

frank gets a JJC point for an out of nowhere Krox I'm mad I didn't think of...

Weasel gets a supermax for one of the cutest naughty images ever...

Beebs gets a supermax for douche, Ben Franklin and young Ed Gein...

TBone gets 3 JJC points for Ray Charles and big eyes...

AD gets a supermax for stupid parentheses, Mad Max and for thinking the LSWE is not a place for offensive material...

melly gets 3 JJC points for our good friend NFL_Referee...

Sprots gets 2 JJC points for not paying attention to artists and for the on topic Gladys Knight reference...

Earl gets 2 JJC points because she knows damned well I haven't seen Young Frankestein. Nor Rocky Horror. And I conflate what references I do know from both in my head since they're both similarly themed cult classics from the same era. Oh, and that IB is apparently not one of the ones I know...

Hottie gets a JJC point for an inspired Krox, and because it may be the only chance I have to give her one...

Lizbit and Wiki get a supermax for tales from obedience school and wild eyed doggies...

Esto gets 2 JJC points for trying to turn in the same assignment two days in a row...

Bob gets a JJC point for his continuing to put bad puns in the Spoiler title...

Anon gets 2 JJC points for B&B and eagle eyed Trump...

I have no clue regarding the reasoning behind the parenthesis, especially since the song it parodies, "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", does not use them. Maybe because there's a pause before he sings "with glasses". Or maybe they were feeling playful when they titled it.
