Soup
If there is such a thing as double noodle chicken soup (and there is, I am now addicted to it), why would anyone still get the regular kind?

That is the most direct, concise, and meaningful answer to a question you've given in quite a while.
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.

Re: Soup
Inquiring minds want to know:
Is this chicken noodle soup with double the normal amount of noodles or double the normal amount of chicken?
That would affect the proper wording of the title.

As typed by Skoop, “double noodle chicken soup” would mean double the noodles. As typed by BobJ he likes a double portion of soup.silverscreenselect wrote:Inquiring minds want to know:

It is a can slap full of noodles. I don't think there are any bits of chicken, just chicken broth.

Since you posted this, I have cut back to one can in a particular day, and the odd bloating I had been noticing went away. That is a lot of sodium.

I'm sorry to have triggered you decide to cut back on something you liked, but thrilled to hear that you noticed beneficial signs after doing so.Ritterskoop wrote:Since you posted this, I have cut back to one can in a particular day, and the odd bloating I had been noticing went away. I remember back in the 80's I bicycled to the job I had then and often would buy breakfast or lunch from the lunch truck that came by at known times each day. There were no such things as "gourmet food trucks" back then, rather, they were often referred to as "roach coaches," usually by people who had never patronized them. I was happy to find out that ours had pretty good food at very reasonable prices. I'm pretty sure that's where I tried both a bacon quesadilla and a breakfast burrito for the first time, on different days, of course. Anyway, one time I thought I should be eating more vegetables, so I grabbed a can of V8 along with my food. Back at work, I read the label and was astounded at the level of sodium packed into something purported to be so healthy. It was somewhere in the range of the soup you mentioned, or possibly even more unbelievable at over 100% RDA.
When I saw your response, I thought that you had previously written about some of your cooking exploits or attempts. Have you considered making your OWN chicken soup? Go TRIPLE on the noodles, it's "Rittersoup!" You can add whatever fresh vegetables you have (or like) and totally control the sodium level. Use your favorite pieces of chicken in the amount you prefer. The best way is to make your own chicken stock, but low-sodium pre-made stocks are abundant. Be sure to read the label for sodium and to see what else it contains. Soups are generally easy to make and are really forgiving of even the most novice cook. You have to try really hard to screw them up.

Re: Soup
The Eating Well publication sent my newspaper a review copy of a book on soups, which I grabbed in the year-end charity book sale (we donate cash for books and wines and other doodads companies send for review).
I've made 3-4 of the recipes, and they all turned out fine. One was an oyster stew, which I have no interest in oysters so I used potatoes and it was yummy.
They have kept an eye on the sodium and many other things, so I like this book. SOUPS: 100 healthy recipes for the ultimate comfort food.

Re: Soup
My contribution on the topic of soup:
Last night Nancy and I ordered Valentine's Day dinner from a favorite local restaurant and stayed in for the evening. As I often do, I wound up getting a couple appetizers instead of a full dinner...so often I find them more appealing than available entrees. Anyway, I wound up with a couple of small crab cakes and 4 clams casino stuffed mushrooms with a lemon cream sauce. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
Normally when we eat there we get a cup of their seafood bisque but yesterday one of their soups du jour was a tomato dill bisque, which sounded quite good. In reality, it was more than quite good. It was "bring me a vat of this soup" good. Seriously. I was scraping every drop in the container with my spoon and stopped just short of destroying any element of romance by licking the container clean.
Not that there was all that much left to clean up
