Lyrically Speaking - 2/12/19

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Feb 12, 2019 7:24 am

And now for the final Tuesday Wordplay of the season. It's sad to think that in just a few days, the LSWE will be....... well....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Well, somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Well, maybe it's too far away
Or maybe I'm just blind

2. Up in the morning look in the mirror
I'm worn as her toothbrush hanging in the stand
My face ain't looking any younger
Now I can see love's taken her toll on me

3. The letter that you wrote me made me stop and wonder why
But I guess you felt like you had to set things right

4. So I get out of bed
Put on my shoes
And in my head
Thoughts like that
Through the break-up

5. For awhile, we paid no mind to the past
We knew love would last
Every night, something right
Would invite us to begin the day

6. I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past like
The wind through the trees

7. We walked together hand in hand
'cross miles and miles of golden sand
But now it's over and done

8. Train roll on, on down the line
Won`t you please take me far away
Now I feel the wind blow outside my door
Means I`m leaving my woman at home

9. I can't help it
Everything's a mess
I can't help it
You're so treacherous
When it comes to tenderness

10. This ain't no temporary, typical, tearful goodbye, uh, uh, uh
This ain't no breakin' up an' wakin' up an' makin' up one more time, uh, uh, uh

11. Why don't you stay the evening
Kick back and watch the TV
And I'll fix a little something to eat

12. Tell by the way you that you switch and walk
I can see by the way that you baby talk
I can know by the way you treat your man
I can love you baby til it's a cryin'

I know this is right. Foghat covered this, it's an old blues tune, Muddy Waters or somebody like that. Unless they cribbed these lines from a different song and combined the two tunes for their version, in which case I dunno. But the above lines are definitely in

OK, I see what happened and the answer you were going for once I was able to look up the lyrics you posted for #12...the group for your lyric snippet "borrowed" the lines from the song I answered with. I've never heard your song, so that's why I was so confused.

And now for the final Tuesday Wordplay of the season. It's sad to think that in just a few days, the LSWE will be....... well....

1. Well, somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Well, maybe it's too far away
Or maybe I'm just blind

When I'm Gone - 3 Doors Down

2. Up in the morning look in the mirror
I'm worn as her toothbrush hanging in the stand
My face ain't looking any younger
Now I can see love's taken her toll on me

She's Gone - Hall & Oates

3. The letter that you wrote me made me stop and wonder why
But I guess you felt like you had to set things right

Already Gone - Eagles

And my first shot at the krox is....well, you know. That's okay, I've got a better one...

4. So I get out of bed
Put on my shoes
And in my head
Thoughts like that
Through the break-up

Since You Been Gone - Rainbow

You know, as much as I dig RJD, the dude that was singing with them on this one (whose name I forget) was really great...

5. For awhile, we paid no mind to the past
We knew love would last
Every night, something right
Would invite us to begin the day

6. I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past like
The wind through the trees

My CIty is Gone - The Pretenders

7. We walked together hand in hand
'cross miles and miles of golden sand
But now it's over and done

8. Train roll on, on down the line
Won`t you please take me far away
Now I feel the wind blow outside my door
Means I`m leaving my woman at home

Tuesday's Gone - Lynyrd Skynyrd

And so is my krox.... I was going to really bang my drum about being so clever as to it being a double krox and now that's all messed up. Thanks a lot!

9. I can't help it
Everything's a mess
I can't help it
You're so treacherous
When it comes to tenderness

10. This ain't no temporary, typical, tearful goodbye, uh, uh, uh
This ain't no breakin' up an' wakin' up an' makin' up one more time, uh, uh, uh

11. Why don't you stay the evening
Kick back and watch the TV
And I'll fix a little something to eat

Where Have All the Cowboys Gone - Paula "Pits" Cole

12. Tell by the way you that you switch and walk
I can see by the way that you baby talk
I can know by the way you treat your man
I can love you baby til it's a cryin'

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the word of the day in the title.

Long Gone Daddy - Hank Williams

I was going to use the Kelly Clarkson song, but I couldn't stand keeping that U in there and I think that would revoke the krox since it's the same title as the Rainbow tune (although it's a totally different song). Am I right on that or hopelessly confused as usual?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Well, somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Well, maybe it's too far away
Or maybe I'm just blind

Gone

2. Up in the morning look in the mirror
I'm worn as her toothbrush hanging in the stand
My face ain't looking any younger
Now I can see love's taken her toll on me

She's gone, Hall and Oates

3. The letter that you wrote me made me stop and wonder why
But I guess you felt like you had to set things right

This has one of my favorite lyrics in it: And then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself!

Already gone, Eagles

4. So I get out of bed
Put on my shoes
And in my head
Thoughts like that
Through the break-up

Gone

5. For awhile, we paid no mind to the past
We knew love would last
Every night, something right
Would invite us to begin the day

Gone

6. I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past like
The wind through the trees
A, oh, back to Ohio, or something like that.

My city was gone, the Pretenders

7. We walked together hand in hand
'cross miles and miles of golden sand
But now it's over and done
Cuz that was yesterday, and

Yesterday's Gone, Chad and Jeremy

8. Train roll on, on down the line
Won`t you please take me far away
Now I feel the wind blow outside my door
Means I`m leaving my woman at home

Gone

9. I can't help it
Everything's a mess
I can't help it
You're so treacherous
When it comes to tenderness

Gone

10. This ain't no temporary, typical, tearful goodbye, uh, uh, uh
This ain't no breakin' up an' wakin' up an' makin' up one more time, uh, uh, uh

Gone

11. Why don't you stay the evening
Kick back and watch the TV
And I'll fix a little something to eat

Where have all the cowboys gone?

12. Tell by the way you that you switch and walk
I can see by the way that you baby talk
I can know by the way you treat your man
I can love you baby til it's a cryin'

Gone

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the word of the day in the title.

Long time gone, the Everly Brothers

Well.... Me and Wiki decided to go into today's LS with Positive Thinking. We thought that would make it ever so much more likely that we'd remember a bunch of today's songs.

Well.... That didn't work. I guess we can't remember anything we've never heard.
Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the word of the day in the title.
Another song is Take Me Out to the Ball Game. An artist is Salvador Dali. We do not know if the word of the day is in that title. We do know that Salvador Dali didn't have much of anything to do with that song. Well....
Image Bonus: If you know the word, show me a fitting image.
We don't know the word, so Wiki decided instead to show you an image about fittings. She says that's almost the same thing.

1. Well, somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Well, maybe it's too far away
Or maybe I'm just blind
When I'm Gone - Three Doors Down (I was surprised that more people didn't know this band when I used them as a clue in the Tangredi game. I guess I just assume most people listen to the Jack-inspired format of radio that's a calliope of the last 50 years in pop music...)

4. So I get out of bed

Since You Been Gone - Rainbow

5. For awhile, we paid no mind to the past
We knew love would last
Every night, something right
Would invite us to begin the day
After The Love Is Gone - Earth Wind & Fire

6. I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past like
The wind through the trees
My City Was Gone - Pretenders (That. Bass. Line.)

7. We walked together hand in hand
'cross miles and miles of golden sand
But now it's over and done
Yesterday's Gone - Chad & Jeremy

8. Train roll on, on down the line
Won`t you please take me far away
Now I feel the wind blow outside my door
Means I`m leaving my woman at home
Tuesday's Gone - Lynyrd Skynyrd

9. I can't help it
Everything's a mess
I can't help it
You're so treacherous
When it comes to tenderness
Since You're Gone - Cars (That would be three games in a row with a Cars song... and none of them from Heartbeat City where all of my favorite Cars songs reside...)

10. This ain't no temporary, typical, tearful goodbye, uh, uh, uh
This ain't no breakin' up an' wakin' up an' makin' up one more time, uh, uh, uh
Gone - Montgomery Gentry (Another country Mecca earworm. This time, nobody bit...)

11. Why don't you stay the evening
Kick back and watch the TV
And I'll fix a little something to eat
Where Have All The Cowboys Gone - Paula Cole

12. Tell by the way you that you switch and walk
I can see by the way that you baby talk
I can know by the way you treat your man
I can love you baby til it's a cryin'
Gone Daddy Gone - Violent Femmes (I've used this song in past LSWE games [Once in my game of favorite covers, since I love the Gnarls Barkley version of this song], but apparently this was the first time I used this particular set of lyrics since TBone pointed out they were apparently borrowed from a Foghat song. That was good enough for title and artist credit for him...)

Image Bonus: If you know the word, show me a fitting image. - It was going to be very, very, VERY hard for anyone to top the image Weasel led the game off with. That was just so many different kinds of wrong. Weasel gets the IBB for worst mental image of the season...

Hey! That was a spectacularly good image!

Dang whippersnappers, no appreciation for talent and tradition.
