Gillian West
Pensacola, FL
3rd grade teacher

Gillian teaches at Pea Ridge Elementary, "home of the Chiefs". She's going for $20,000 and has used her 50:50.

$20,000: With a name meaning "earth pig" in Afrikaans, what one-of-a-kind animal is the only surviving member of its order, family and genus?
A - porcupine
B - armadillo
C - platypus
D - aardvark

Gillian doesn't know, so she calls on her +1, her sister Nicole. Nicole was leaning away from "armadillo" and thinks it's "porcupine". They try to imagine what the animals look like. They know the platypus has a duck bill and the porcupine has a bunch of needles. She decides to ask the audience.
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Ask the Audience results:
A - 23%
B - 15%
C - 14%
D - 48%

Gillian says that's a good percentage. She wants to go with her gut even though it's not telling her anything. She decides to gamble on the audience.
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Answer: D (aardvark)

commercial break

Gillian wants to buy books for their reading library and encourage "flexible seating".

$30,000: Not including Mexico and Canada, what foreign nation lies closest to the U.S.?
A - Cuba
B - the Bahamas
C - Russia
D - the Dominican Republic

Gillian has been to the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. She also knows that at some times of the year one can walk to Russia. She also mentions "someone who said they could see Russia". She's not a gambler but she's going for it.
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Answer: C (Russia)

$50,000: Because it contains a special amino acid that stimulates the enzymes that break down alcohol, which of these is often touted as a hangover cure?
A - orange juice
B - pork
C - asparagus
D - popcorn

"Oh, goodness," Gillian says. She had hangovers when she was in college. She says asparagus is staring her in the face. She has no lifelines and she's not a risk-taker but she decides to go for it.
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Answer: C (asparagus)

commercial break

Gillian can't believe that she took the risk.

$100,000: Before FDR changed it to the single word "infamy," the draft of his famous Pearl Harbor address called December 7, 1941 "a date which will live in" what?
A - eternal memory
B - world history
C - the annals of time
D - shame, cowardice, and treachery

Gillian's gut isn't telling her anything. She doesn't think it's B and is leaning toward A. It's a free guess and she goes with how she was leaning.
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Answer: B (world history)

commercial break

MILLIONAIRE "QUESTION OF THE DAY": Though they are eligible for the "Gold Whistle Award" for sports officiating, what league's officiants do not use whistles?

I'd have to use lifelines on this one. Maybe the audience will know.

I'm glad this came up; I might have said Cuba without thinking. As for walking there, I found out how you can do it in this article: https://russianblogger.me/how-to-get-fr ... to-russia/

When the Bering Strait is iced over, you can walk between Little Diomede (U.S.) and Big Diomede (Russia) islands.

If I get this far (not a sure thing), I miss this. D is the only one IMHO that would moderate into infamy.
