For Those Who Slept Late
Major League Baseball season is already here, having started at 5:30 am this morning. Seattle beat "home team" Oakland 9-7 in a game played in Tokyo. If you missed it, you've got another chance tomorrow . The two teams play again at the same time. The rest of MLB gets underway on March 28 (Seattle and Oakland also play on the 28th, against other opponents)

Were these official regular season games?
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

They've been doing it about every three to four years since 2000, always a week before true Opening Day. They should not be making these regular season games...

Whatever happened to the good old days when the Cincinnati Reds opened the season (because they were the first major league team)?

I had the replay of today's game on as background noise after I got home from work. That's how I learned that news broke during the game that Ichiro was retiring after the game. --Bob

When the Mariners surprisingly signed him to a Major League contract this offseason, it was widely speculated that he was going to play in the Japan series and then retire since his career was pretty much done after his Marlins stint...
And unless Bartolo Colon can latch on somewhere, there will be nobody left in MLB who is older than me....
