On Wednesday, Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan will ascend to the Chrysanthemum Throne, succeeding his father the Heisei Emperor. His reign will be called Reiwa. This is the first time in two centuries that an emperor is retiring.
Prime Minister Abe, visiting the White House, invited President Trump to attend the emperor's coronation in October, describing it as "100 times bigger" than our most important public event, the Super Bowl.
