$7000: Which of the following serves as the background in Leonardo da Vinci's famous "Mona Lisa"?
A - a curtain
B - a landscape
C - the interior of a church
D - a wall

Andy has been to the Louvre and seen the Mona Lisa. He thinks there is a landscape behind her.
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Answer: B (a landscape)

$10,000: Though no one is sure of its rules (as it hasn't been played in 1,500 years), the ancient Chinese game of liubo is thought to have used a 14-sided die, called a what?
A - tetrahedron
B - tetradecahedron
C - tetracontagon
D - tetrahectagon

Andy has never heard of the game but "14" gives him some clues. He knows that a tetrahedron has 4 sides and a decagon has 10.

Answer: B (tetradecahedron)

$20,000: A land of linked deserts, which of the following countries contains no permanent rivers or lakes?
A - Ethiopia

C - Saudi Arabia
D - Egypt

Andy says Iran sits on a big lake, the Caspian Sea, Egypt has Lake Nasser, formed by the Aswan Dam that swallowed Abu Simbel, an ancient temple, and Ethiopia sits on high land.

A - 30%

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Answer: B (22.6%)

Andy does a victory lap after reaching the threshold.

$100,000: Though several dogs and monkeys made more famous voyages in the '50s, the first animals sent into space, in 1947, were what?
A - guinea pigs
B - goldfish
C - fruit flies
D - turtles

Andy whistles twice. He calls for his +1, Scott. Scott has a few thoughts. Why would any of these be used? Fruit flies are used in studies of DNA so maybe they wanted to do studies on the effects of radiation. Andy says that was one of his choices. Scott thinks turtles is wrong, but Andy says that at this level the answer is counterintuitive. Scott thinks guinea pigs are too obvious and cliché. Goldfish is too weird unless it's the right answer - why would that be used as a choice otherwise?. Andy decides to use the 50:50
[Reveal] Spoiler:
"50:50 results": B & C

Scott is still leaning more toward goldfish. Andy agrees and makes that his final answer.
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Answer: C (fruit flies)
