My Georgia Tech baseball team, after a few lean years, is back in the NCAA tournament as the number 3 overall national seed despite a team that was picked to be in the middle of the pack om the ACC. Here's an interesting article about how they are using some very advanced analytics (somehow fitting for a team from the Georgia Institute of Technology):

It's not a good reflection on a tech school if it's "fitting" for them to outsource their tech to 2 different companies. It would be "fitting" if the school did the analytics in-house.silverscreenselect wrote:Here's an interesting article about how they are using some very advanced analytics (somehow fitting for a team from the Georgia Institute of Technology)

Well, all the analytics in the world didn't help Georgia Tech this weekend. Saturday, they blew a 5-2 ninth inning lead to lose to Auburn. Then they lost to Auburn again on Sunday to get bounced from the tournament on their home field. At least, we had some company. The University of Georgia, which was the #4 national seed (Tech was #3), lost twice to Florida State and will join Tech watching the rest of the tournament on TV.

So a favored team from Georgia had a lead late in a big game and ended up losing. I find that hard to believe.
