Two athletes who represent interesting bits of baseball trivia died this week, and it seems somehow fitting to link their RIP tributes.
Pumpsie Green was the first black player to play for the Boston Red Sox in 1959, making them the last team to integrate. He played six years for the Red Sox and Mets and epitomizes the term journeyman. Age 85
Ernie Broglio was a former 20-game winner for the St. Louis Cardinals who was traded in to the Chicago Cubs for future Hall of Famer Lou Brock in 1964 in what is widely considered one of the most one-sided trades in baseball history. What the Cardinals knew and the Cubs didn't was that Broglio had developed arm problems in the offseason that surgery never corrected. After joining the Cubs, Broglio won only seven more games in three seasons. Age 83
