Spirit and Opportunity will be glad to have the company.

D'oh! Try reading for comprehension, Marley.MarleysGh0st wrote:It's scheduled to land near Mars' north pole at 7:36 p.m. EDT, this evening.
It's going to land at 7:36 pm on May 25.
Why do reporters put the date in one paragraph and the time in another?

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Perhaps they figure that many people are interested in finding out the date, but only the people on Mars care about the exact time.MarleysGh0st wrote:

Since the central point of the article is about how risky these landings are, I'd think the time is pretty important, so you know when to ask, "Did it make it?"silvercamaro wrote:Perhaps they figure that many people are interested in finding out the date, but only the people on Mars care about the exact time.MarleysGh0st wrote:

You may ask on May 26. The reporter will assure you that's timely enough.MarleysGh0st wrote:

You gotta admire American technological ingenuity (for the most part). Spirit and Opportunity were intended only to be limited missions but years later they are still going. My hat's off to NASA and JPL.MarleysGh0st wrote:It's scheduled to land near Mars' north pole at 7:36 p.m. EDT, this evening.
