Just a week and a half ago (airing schedule, not necessarily taping schedule) they asked Linda Saracco:
$4,000
Famous militiamen of the Revolutionary War, the Green Mountain Boys were based in a territory that later became what U.S. state?

A: Pennsylvania B: New York
C: North Carolina D: Vermont
One of the question writers really likes this subject! :)

So if she had a "really good feeling" why did - do I even need to finish asking the question?

Michelle read the whole question and all the answers; all she had to do was ask Ilene which city had area code 312. Since we have a district in Chicago that shares our contracting database I call them a lot and they are in the 312 AC.

Yeah, that was a rather weird over-elaboration of the question. It was a good thing that Ilene knew the answer immediately; trying to type in those museum names for a google search would have been messy.

This seemed a little obscure/difficult for $1,000, IMO

Not very good game play, giving her 'good feeling' answer to the audience before asking them. I wonder whate the percentages would have been had she not said anything.

Maybe, but I was watching with my sons (12 & 9 years old) and they both got it instantly.

When you were in elementary school didn't some other kid ever tease you with the old joke, "Your epidermis is showing!"

Yeah. This was just another overelaboration of "epidermis = skin".

The question writers are feeling wordy, this week. :P

I was going to comment on Linda's transcript but forgot:

Vermont was not a "territory". Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys led a independence movement from New York and New Hampshire that started before the war, but became successful during the war. For example, they were selling land that New York or New Hampshire had deeded to someone else!

There was much discussion on Vermont not joining the United States - from both sides. There almost was another war to "take back" Vermont.

New City is my hometown! I loved that place growing up in the 70's-80's. Now it has grown to be a bustling suburb of NYC. The place looks the same, but the population has grown crazily.

Some things never change
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
