GOFF LS Friday, September 1

#1 Post by Earl the Squirrel » Fri Sep 01, 2023 1:09 am

Good morning, campers! Welcome to your first day here at the Good Old Fashioned Fanny Lyrically Speaking Late Summer Camp. Or, as we like to refer to it, the GOFF LS. You've all been given your guidebook for the season, but here's a link if you need a refresher (or to read it for the first time since your totally ignored your handouts).

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=62023&#p600455

Feel free to refer back to this as needed during the course of the games.

I'm Earl, your Activities Counselor and, while I'll be posting your daily assignments, Camp Director Fanny will ultimately be in charge of content, scoring and possible disputes. Specific gameplay is subject to change at any point. As you know, there's no internet and therefore no Google here at Camp GOFF LS, so you'll have to rely on what's already in your noggin. Camaraderie is always encouraged, but no peeking at your fellow campers' papers until yours has been turned in.

Today's game will be open until Monday at noon or until the answers are posted, whichever comes latest. Remember, it's important to have fun but respect your bunk mates and, as always, be true to yourself and make some memories this September, But hey, enough of my yakkin', let's boogie!

Today's playlist is brought to you by I Heart Radio. Five points each for title, artist and next line:

1. Well I guess it would be nice
if I could touch your body
I know not everybody

2. Life is a mystery
Everyone must stand alone
I hear you call my name

3. I walk along the city streets
You used to walk along with me
and every step I take

4. Who am I to disagree
I travel the world and the seven seas

5. Revving up your engine
Listen to her howling roar
Metal under tension

6. Dig if you will the picture
Of you and I engaged in a kiss
The sweat of your body covers me

7. I got my first real six string
Bought it at the five and dime

8. Love is like a bomb
Baby come and get it on
Living like a lover
With a radar phone

9. You were working as a waitress
In a cocktail bar
When I met you
I picked you out

10. Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song

11. Yes I know he’s been a good friend of mine
But lately something’s changed
That’s hard to define

12. Josie’s on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I want to say

13. Just a small town girl
Living in a lonely world

14. Every time I think of you
I always catch my breath
And I’m still standing here
And you’re miles away

15. I used to think maybe you loved me
Now baby I’m sure
And I just can’t wait til the day

Today's Bonus Section is titled Have You Been Paying Attention?

Bonus #1: What was my initial post title referencing? (This wording is a bit awkward because I had to bend it for the Internal Server Error to settle its ass down)

Bonus #2: What was my alternate title?

Now I'll be reminded daily about a baseball player nobody remembers except me since I saw him play twice for the Expos in 1990, Jerry Goff, who had a very interesting final game in MLB, going 2-4 with a homerun, but allowing a staggering six passed balls as the catcher for Houston!

How's that for a fun fact before I even answered a single lyric?

Sorry I didn't play. Been the phone 3 fucking hours with Tachus, local fibernet, thinking to blow away xfinity. Can't get inside tv connected, firestick connected. I want to punch someone. Badly, with malicious forethought and poop on their doorstep.

Well, then

I SHOOK YOU UP
Don't You Want Me
another British band - Soft Cell?

10. Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
SOUNDS LIKE SHE'S SINGING OOH, OOH, OOH
Edge of Seventeen
Stevie Nicks
There is a funny story about how she misheard someone's Suthren accent, and they weren't saying edge of 17 at all, but "age of 17" - I think it was. Edge of 17 is a much stronger lyric, so good job.

11. Yes I know he’s been a good friend of mine
But lately something’s changed
That’s hard to define
JESSE'S GOT HIMSELF A GIRL, AND I WANT TO MAKE HER MINE
Jesse's Girl
Rick Springfield
They did in fact name a character in Glee "Jesse" so that Finn could sing this song. And Springfield is STILL touring.

12. Josie’s on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I want to say
I LIKE MY GIRLS A LITTLE BIT OLDER, or some such - song has a weird vibe to it, to me.
something something Tonight?
Outfield?

13. Just a small town girl
Living in a lonely world
SHE TOOK THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN GOING ANYWHERE
Journey
Don't Stop Believin'
They performed this SIX TIMES on Glee.

14. Every time I think of you
I always catch my breath
And I’m still standing here
And you’re miles away
I can hear the guy but can't get to the lyric or the title
The Babys?

15. I used to think maybe you loved me
Now baby I’m sure
And I just can’t wait til the day
WHEN YOU KNOCK ON MY DOOR
WHO-OAH!
Walking on Sunshine
Katrina and the Waves

Like a prayer, Madonna, And it feels the same

3. I walk along the city streets

and every step I take

Always something there to remind me, Aretha Franklin, Reminds me how it used to be

Sometimes, with a long post, it is better to type it into a notepad-type app and then copy & paste into a Bored post when finished.
