Acorns

#1 Post by Beebs52 » Wed Oct 18, 2023 7:50 pm

We have massive raining down of acorns this year. Like, look out below.
Googled and there are "masting" events every 2-5 years, but not tied to weather necessarily. Anyone else being bombarded?

My oak rained down acorns every other year for the first five years I lived here...

The it bombarded me two years in a row....

Then nothing for several years....

It's so unpredictable. I've had acorns this year, but I'd hardly call it a mast year like I remember 2009, 2011, and 2013-14 (Maybe my tree's just old). Someone I work with just bought a new house and was complaining to me about all the acorns raining down in her yard this Fall....

It's the sky that's falling - acorn-colored sky, I tell ya.

I wrote our HOA's management company weeks ago, asking them to trim a few limbs of the scarlet oak that's over our roof. Every year in late August we start getting hammered. It sounds like you are being shot at. It's truly disconcerting, and a few times I gave up sleeping in my own bed.

They wrote back that they had the work scheduled "in the fall."

The tree people came a few days ago, after six weeks of the onslaught, and now it is slightly less hammery but still, you forget, and then WHAM.

It does indeed keep you on toes. I think EVIL SQUIRRELS are targeting us specifically. They're like that.
