Three Years, Three Teams, Three Rings

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Thu Nov 02, 2023 10:47 am

Yesterday, Texas Rangers relief pitcher Will Smith became the first player in MLB history to win three World Series with three different teams in three consecutive years. Smith pitched for the Atlanta Braves in 2021, then was on the Houston Astros roster in 2022 but didn't play (he still got a ring). Finally, appeared in two World Series games for Texas this year.

So if he chooses wisely next season, he can do what Lonnie Smith got deked out of being the first to accomplish, and that's win a ring with four different teams.

I knew Don Baylor had been on three straight, different World Series teams in the 80's (Boston, Minnesota, and Oakland), but he didn't play in the '88 Series (though he did in the ALCS). And of course, Baylor's teams went 1-2, so he only got one championship ring, and with a team few remember him even playing for.
