Seems like krox should be getting credit for the one he already suggested, that got us 2/3 of the way to the Tangredi:

24. THIS IS SPINAL TAP + 39. BEGINNING OF THE END = THIS IS THE END, with James Franco, who directed 71. THE DISASTER ARTIST

That combines with True Lies for a movie called True Beleiver. I'm not sure what the third film for that is.

I knew somebody was going to come up with a different answer for that one. I should have written a better clue.

Wrong girlfriend. This is Murder by Numbers in which Gosling played a Leopold and Loeb type killer. He started dating his co-star Sandra Bullock after the movie. That combines with 21. Death Wish for Murder by Death. I haven't checked the filmography to see what the actors in that film may have directed but with that cast, there should be a match somewhere.

Apparently Ryan Gosling only makes movies to meet girlfriends.

And in at least two of them he played pretty despicable characters. :)

I agree that you are on to something, but I worked for an hour today trying to figure out how to get Rob Reiner into your pattern since we have The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, and When Harry Met Sally all on the list. I could not figure it out. But I think we must be getting close.
Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to get Rob Reiner into the puzzle, either.
I know it's not part of the puzzle, but I just had to figure this out -

Primary Motive (Obscure Judd Nelson from 1990) + True Colors = Primary Colors with Rob Reiner who directed (Take your pick)

Unforgiven
This is not Unforgiven but Dances with Wolves, two years earlier, directed by Kevin Costner, who was in 80. Lillies of the Field + 31. Burden of Dreams = Field of Dreams.

The Clint Eastwood director's film is Mystic River. He starred in Heartbreak Ridge, which would match up nicely with Hacksaw Ridge. Perhaps one of the clues actually refers to one of the versions of The Heartbreak Kid.

Oops, the Clint Eastwood film is Dirty Harry which is in Jarnon's latest consolidation.

THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS?
This one really has me stumped. It can't be The Trouble with Angels, which was released in 1966, because no actress in that film could "later" appear in The Sound of Music, which was released in 1964. I can't find any actresses who played nuns or mother superiors in these three films who had played a similar role earlier. The real puzzler is Sister Act, because the only actresses who were old enough to have played nuns before 1964 were Maggie Smith and Mary Wickes, and neither of them has a matching film on their filmographies.

Unless I'm missing something or Frank is making some sort of play on words here with the phrase "back in the habit," I can't find a single actress who fits, much less three separate actresses in three films.

This was a mistake on my part; I remembered incorrectly when The Trouble with Angels was released. It shows you should always check even things you think you know. (Especially things you think you know.)

I think this might be Out of the Past. I can't find the exact quote because it's so short, but the characters do talk about smoking a few times. And that would match up with Africa Screams and Robert Redford.
