Lyrically Speaking - 2/6/24

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Feb 06, 2024 7:49 am

Here's another Tuesday Hidden Wordplay, where the key word of the day is not in the titles, but somewhere in the song lyrics. What word do all of these songs hide within their poetry? This one's a bit more difficult than the first two, but I still think most of you won't have any trouble at all with it...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the key word....

1. He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name
"That don't matter", he said, "'Cause it's all the same"

2. They were askin' if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
I told 'em you were livin' downtown
Drivin' all the old men crazy

3. One week in we let the story begin
We're going out on our first date
You and me are thrifty, so go all you can eat
Fill up your bag and I fill up a plate

4. Glitter on the mattress
Glitter on the highway
Glitter on the front porch
Glitter on the hallway

5. As you brush your shoes
Stand before the mirror
And you comb your hair
Grab your coat and hat

6. Well, we're having a ball just 'a bopping on the big dance floor
Well, there's a real square cat, he looks a 1974

7. They don't write 'em like that anymore.
They just don't write 'em like that anymore.

8. Something's wrong 'cause my mind is fading
And everywhere I look there's a dead end waiting
Temperature's dropping at the rotten oasis
Stealing kisses from the leperous faces

9. We gotta be extra careful
That we don't build our hopes up too high
'Cause she's got her own obligations
And so, and so do I

10. But I guess I'd better get myself together
'Cause when you left, you didn't leave too much behind
Just a note that said, "I'm sorry" by your picture
And a song that's weighing heavy on my mind

11. Gonna write a little letter, gonna mail it to my local D.J.
It's a rockin' rhythm record I want my jockey to play

12. One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead
I met a girl there and she almost knocked me dead

1. He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name

I Love Rock and Roll - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

If anybody says Britney Spears, they should be 86ed immediately if not sooner!

I was expecting this one from your earlier comment, although I didn't know in what capacity, but I still sang it to the tune of Cherry Pie...

5. As you brush your shoes
Stand before the mirror
And you comb your hair
Grab your coat and hat

Wild Night - Van Morrison

Ha! I did not see this before I made the Sheeran comment! Van the Man matching game for the win!!

The Break Up Song - Greg Kihn Band

8. Something's wrong 'cause my mind is fading
And everywhere I look there's a dead end waiting
Temperature's dropping at the rotten oasis
Stealing kisses from the leperous faces

There's Always Got to Be One - Wurlitzer Prize

That we don't build our hopes up too high

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that has the key word of the day somewhere in the lyrics (but not the title).

Hello Daddy Good Morning Darling - Mel McDaniels

Trying to stick to my krox vow, I have this LP. But I'm glad you didn't ask for the lyrics this time, because it's been years since I listened to it (going to youtube once I finish this)...

Image Bonus: If you know the word, show me a fitting image.

1. He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name
"That don't matter", he said, "'Cause it's all the same"
I Love Rock and Roll - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

2. They were askin' if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
I told 'em you were livin' downtown
Drivin' all the old men crazy
The Boys Are Back - Thin Lizzie

3. One week in we let the story begin
We're going out on our first date
You and me are thrifty, so go all you can eat
Fill up your bag and I fill up a plate
Shape Of You - Ed Sheeran (When I was still throwing these games together around the beginning of the year, I had a hole in this game I still needed to fill, and my subconscious immediately rang alarm bells as soon as "jukebox" was uttered in this song when it played one morning at Mecca...)

4. Glitter on the mattress
Glitter on the highway
Glitter on the front porch
Glitter on the hallway
Love Shack - B-52's

5. As you brush your shoes
Stand before the mirror
And you comb your hair
Grab your coat and hat
Wild Night - Van Morrison or Blind Cougar Mellondog and that lady mrk mentioned (No way in hell I'd have picked the lyrics I used out of an LS game if I were playing....)

6. Well, we're having a ball just 'a bopping on the big dance floor
Well, there's a real square cat, he looks a 1974
Rock This Town - Stray Cats

7. They don't write 'em like that anymore.
They just don't write 'em like that anymore.
The Breakup Song - Greg Kihn Band

8. Something's wrong 'cause my mind is fading
And everywhere I look there's a dead end waiting
Temperature's dropping at the rotten oasis
Stealing kisses from the leperous faces
Devil's Haircut - Beck (I swear to Dog I originally had Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar" in the game, until while extracting the lyrics, I realized the jukebox line is in a verse that was cut from the single version, and decided to replace it with this garbage. This would've been Sunday morning...)

9. We gotta be extra careful
That we don't build our hopes up too high
'Cause she's got her own obligations
And so, and so do I
Me & Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul

10. But I guess I'd better get myself together
'Cause when you left, you didn't leave too much behind
Just a note that said, "I'm sorry" by your picture
And a song that's weighing heavy on my mind
Please Mr. Please - Olivia Newton John

11. Gonna write a little letter, gonna mail it to my local D.J.
It's a rockin' rhythm record I want my jockey to play
Roll Over Beethoven - Chuck Berry (Or those Liverpool hacks...)

12. One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead
I met a girl there and she almost knocked me dead
Punk Rock Girl - Dead Milkmen (When I was conceiving my AI game, I wanted to include Dead Milkmen as one of the images, but forgot. Such a lost opportunity...)

What is the key word of the day?

Jukebox!

Image Bonus: If you know the word, show me a fitting image.

Vandal gets the IBB for trying to keep BiT away from the jukebox. Now I gotta know if that was pre-existing or if Vandal altered it...
