Manager of the Texas Rangers, California Angels (briefly), Kansas City Royals (5 seasons) and Saint Louis Cardinals (11 seasons, including the World Series title in 1982).

It's mind blowing to think that during the 1980's, six of the twelve National League teams played their games on old school, concrete, skin removing Astroturf, and with the unbalanced schedule, the Cardinals were one of four teams who played 120 of their 162 games each season on the hard surface. Whiteyball was so successful because it was a home field advantage that could often be taken on the road as well. The 80's were full of team parity, and Herzog's Cardinals were the only team to win three pennants (with no wildcard slots available) during the decade despite teams that looked lackluster on paper...
