I made a point of watching it because my college roommate's daughter was on this evening's telecast. Both he and his wife appeared also. She went out tied for 4th on the word "sheitel".

This Saturday, I'm going to Chicago to attend her Bat Mitzvah.

Spoiler

So was the winner from a public school, a private school, or Annie's alma mater, home school?

I just checked.
Spoiler
He is described as an 8th grader at West Lafayette Jr-Sr High School. The school year ended on May 23 so I don't know if that means he just finished 7th grade or not. West Lafayette is wedged in between Purdue University and the Wabash River so most of the families that live there are associated with the university. West Lafayette High is considered a very good academic school. It is usually right at the top of the rankings on the state proficiency exams.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I wonder if I won the betting pool I was in? I forgot to write down the names of my entries. Oh well, I'll find out on Monday night.

A betting pool for a spelling bee? I've heard it all now. That falls under Nerd with a capital "n".

I guess I'm a nerd too because I also watched the spelling bee. :)

I was amazed at how good the kids were at spelling those obscure words. I'd like to see a bunch of grown-ups try to spell some of those words!
I'm just a game show nerd.

Well, the only ones who could get as many right are the parents.

The best moment of the Spelling Bee was when eventual winner Sameer misheard the word "numnah" as "numbnut".
