Another request for prayers & good vibes

Everyone --

The Boyfriend has cervical stenosis (Note: must be the day for neck posts) and will most likely (like 97 percent) need an operation.

We have a doctor's appt. on Thursday to determine the course of action.

His spinal column is scarily thin at his neck. The problem affects five disks.

As I understand the surgery (based on this handy-dandy interactive website the doc's office gave us), they will remove five or six disks, replace them with some titanium thingies and scrape some bone spurs so his spinal column can get back to some semblance of normal.

He was out of work for five weeks (although he is back now). We think his work contributes to it because he needs to be on a ladder and raise his arms.

The idea of a 12-hour surgery has us both a little on edge but I am trying to keep extremely calm during all of this.

Just think lovely thoughts. I will update.

Melly, I'll add "the Boyfriend" to my list of people for whom I pray.

Good vibes going his way.

On the upside, that keeps him from oogling the babes he passes on the sidewalk. :)

Ouch!

Mel, my experience with neck surgery is that getting back on one's feet is not so bad, but getting back to work may take more time than is estimated, especially in the work environment you describe. Be a good gff and make sure he doesn't try to do too much too soon. Nag, if necessary. :)

Mr k --

He was getting ready to retire in August anyway (at age 58 with 38 years at the phone company).

SO, it is possible that he can get some sort of dispatching or troubleshooting job or something that can use his expertise without actually getting back on the ladder and fixing circuits.

But not some sort of phony make-do work. THAT would drive him nuts because he could see through the sham in a second.

IANAD his spinal column is plenty fine, its his spinal canal that has narrowed because the vertebrae have shifted and must be fixed.

Good vibes to you both. [/quote]
