What is the scoop on how long a contestant pool water-treader should take before "giving up hope"?

just lower your expectations.

Certainly longer than the two months you've been in the pool. Longer than one season, even. But I don't know how long the confirmed record is.

I've experienced the long treading of water until I was flushed, tabcourt. So my reply was a combination: not too encouraging, not too negative, and not too certain of the answer...because TPTB rarely let us know exactly how long anyone waited for The Call and they certainly don't release any official statistics.

Sympathies for the flushee and I guess there's still a microscopic chance right up till the day before the last day of taping for this season. Has it been picked up for a 10th season?

I don't think there's been an official announcement, one way or the other.

At least your location (in the outer reaches of "Where Else") means that you might be one of the contestants given the last minute call to "come in tomorrow". So if you want to keep optimistic, make sure you've got whatever clothes you'd want to wear on the show clean and ready to go!

I presume everyone from Elsewhere has already gotten The Call, if they're to tape this season.

When I taped at the very end of July '08, one of my green room buddies had been in the pool from the previous September - so we have a data point of 10 1/2 months of wading/waiting.
