California's turn in the bad weather news

#1 Post by MarleysGh0st » Fri Jun 13, 2008 5:31 am

If drought = wildfire = weather. :(

The Humboldt Fire in Butte County is up to 19,000 acres, only 10% contained at last report. MarleysSister/BIL/Nephew are among those who evacuated and are staying downtown at a hotel. A Google map the local newspaper has posted shows the fire about a mile from their property, but I don't know how the situation might have changed overnight. It's changing rapidly.

Back in 1999, a fire scorched most of their property but firefighters were able to save the house. I hope they're that lucky again, this time.

And this is just the start of the dry season. :(

Downtown what?

I see that Paradise has been evacuated.

Chico.

Yeah. Which was apparently a challenge, because the main road out was cut off by the fire and there are a lot of retired people there. And there are the occasional folks who refuse to evacuate, such as the fellow quoted as saying, "I've never left and I'm going to stay here until I die."

Brave words, but I hope it doesn't happen today.

I hope the Sierra Nevada Brewery is untouched - for selfish reasons.

My mother's mother grew up near Gridley on the Ord Ranch.

That's in downtown Chico, which ought to remain safe.
