Jennifer Hill
Muskogee, OK

No pre-game chit-chat.

$100 - In a courtroom, "Guilty" and "Not guilty" are responses provided after a judge asks what question?

A - How do you plead?
B - How do you plow?
C - How do you play?
D - You just love prison, don't you?

Luckily Jennifer has never had to answer this question.

$200 - Which of these athletes would most likely visit a driving range in order to improve his professional career?

A - LeBron James
B - Tiger Woods
C - Derek Jeter
D - Peyton Manning

$300 - The French phrase "crème de la crème" is often used to describe something that is what?

A - extremely old
B - difficult to understand
C - slightly flawed
D - top quality

$500 - In 2007, what comedian replaced Bob Barker as the host of "The Price is Right"?

A - Wayne Brady
B - Drew Carey
C - Bob Saget
D - Jeff Foxworthy

$1K - Chronometry is the science of measuring what?

A - sound
B - shapes
C - time
D - light

Since "chronological order" is "time order" Jennifer is going to say "C".

Commercial break

Meredith says that Jennifer looks very nice but adds that she understands Jennifer doesn't normally dress this way. She's an operator at a power plant and wears goggles and hard hats. She carries a flashlight in one pocket and an adjustable wrench in another. She's "quite the girl at work". It's mostly men there. She's learned more about hunting and fishing than she ever thought she would, but maybe she'll get a question that will help her. Jennifer's parents Howard and Janie are in the relationship seats.

$2K - During what war were soldiers on one side given the nickname "Johnny Reb"?

A - War of 1812
B - Revolutionary War
C - World War I
D - U.S. Civil War

Jennifer has a very, very, very strong suspicion and she hates to use a lifeline, so she makes "D" her final answer.

$4K - In a poster promoting reading, what Hollywood hunk is holding "Dubliners", a novel written by a fellow countryman?

A - Russell Crowe
B - Orlando Bloom
C - Colin Farrell
D - Antonio Banderas

Jennifer is 90% sure that Colin Farrell is Scottish and she would assume that "The Dubliners" was written by somebody Scottish, so she makes "C" her final answer. Meredith says that Dublin is actually in Ireland, causing Jennifer to exclaim, "Oh!" Meredith then says that Colin Farrell is Irish. Jennifer laughs and says, "Thank goodness for my faulty logic!" Meredith says that James Joyce wrote the book, then asks if Jennifer is OK. She is, but she says that she feels a little silly, too.

$8K - Which of these drugstore brands often comes with "enteric coating"?

A - Pepto-Bismol
B - Bayer
C - Blistex
D - Head & Shoulders

$16K - Excluding tornadoes, one of the fastest surface wind speeds ever recorded was in 1934 on Mount Washington in what U.S. state?

A - New Hampshire
B - Alaska
C - Colorado
D - West Virginia

Jennifer thinks that she'll ask "this very bright audience."

ATA results:
A - 46%
B - 25%
C - 17%
D - 12%

Jennifer doesn't look happy about the results, so she decides to use her 50/50 to see if "it" is still there, meaning "A" - 46% is a good number but she wants to make sure. The 50/50 leaves "A" and "B". Jennifer decides to trust the audience and make "A" her final answer.

Commercial break

Meredith says she understands that Jennifer does a "crazy little wiggle dance". Jennifer promised the producers that if she got to $25K she would do it on the air. Jennifer says yes, adding "I don't know what I may have sold my soul for." Meredith asks for a sample since the next question is for $25K and Jennifer will have to stand up and do it. Jennifer does.

$25K - In the card game baccarat, what is the best score a player can achieve in a single hand?

A - five
B - nine
C - eleven
D - twenty

Jennifer doesn't gamble enough so she's going to have to call Carol, a friend she met during the audition process. Carol repeats the question softly (probably to others in the room). Carol isn't sure and can't come up with an answer before time elapses. Jennifer says it's not the worst thing in the world not to gamble very much and since she isn't, she takes her $16K and walks away.

ANSWERS:
$100 - A (How do you plead?)
$200 - B (Tiger Woods)
$300 - D (top quality)
$500 - B (Drew Carey)
$1K - C (time)
$2K - D (U.S. Civil War)
$4K - C (Colin Farrell)
$8K - B (Bayer)
$16K - A (New Hampshire)
$25K - B (nine)

$16K: No clue on this one. I would've phoned a friend. I didn't think the audience would know obscure U.S. geography.

Even though it wasn't a great ATA, there are enough clues for a plurality of the New York audience to pick up on. If they haven't been to Mt. Washington themselves, they've likely seen a bumper sticker saying "THIS CAR CLIMBED MT. WASHINGTON". And there's a weather station on top of the mountain that frequently gets mentioned during winter weather reports for having the coldest temperature in the northeast or in the whole nation.

P.S. Although it can't compare with the Rockies, the view from the top is spectacular! THIS BODY CLIMBED MT. WASHINGTON. 8)

Good - no "Okie from Muskogee" crap.

"Faulty logic" indeed, but whatever works.

This is one of those facts that has been burned into my brain for what seems like forever.

No wiggle dance. I associate baccarat with James Bond, and was disappointed that they changed it to Texas Hold 'Em for the remake of Casino Royale. Having seen Dr. No and Thunderball, both of which have card-playing scenes in them, I knew this one.

So I'd be going for $50K with all lifelines still available.

Here's an article about Jennifer's appearance.

http://www.muskogeephoenix.com/local/lo ... 02228.html
Her parents, Janie and Howard Hill, went with her to New York for six days. They stayed in a bed and breakfast in Brooklyn.

“It was funny, my folks kept being friendly on the subway platform at 6:30 a.m. — and people stared,” Hill said. “The people were nice, but not chatty like we are.”
Now this I would have liked to have seen! :)
